Activity Title: Nerf Toy yoga
Source: Fidget Toys for Special Needs Children | Sensory Fidgets & Stress Therapy Toys for Autism
& ADHD. (n.d.). Retrieved October 10, 2015.

Equipment: Ten small nerf toys, 100 toy darts, nine small orange cones,
Description of Activity:
The goal of this activity is to incorporate yoga or stretching into a game. Typically most dont stretch
on their own or as frequently as needed. In this activity each participant gets a nerf toy with the most
possible toy darts it can hold. This activity is can be played standing or on knees but I recommend to
start on knees until majority of participants will comfortable. This activity has two teams which starts
with all participants in their base, the rule are fairly simple. If you get tag with a toy dart you are
allowed one redemption by holding a yoga pose of the therapist choice for the duration of a minute.
After one redemption if tagged again you are out and have to wait until new game starts , once every
participant of a specific team has been tag out and used their redemption the game is over. At any
time one can advance or even invade the enemies base as long as they dont get tag in the process.
After redemption one must start back in bae and if you are tagged in base you are still out.
Leadership considerations: This activity works well with small groups from ten to sixteen
participants. Consider using any open environment thats inside or outside and free of distractions.
Therapist should act as a teacher, demonstrator, and motivator while effectively communicating all
spectrums of activity. As a facilitator one would have to know how to play the activity, use all toys,
and set up the activity. Therapist should also be aware of too aggressive play and know how to ask
participants to tone it down without taking away the fun or excitement. Protective eye equipment is
not a requirement but should tell participants not to aim for eye or head tags.
Adaptations:
Participants with spina bifida- Can participate in the activity on their knees or from a stationary
seating position that allows them to tag opponents from base with little to no movement. Are allowed
to have assistance from therapist to collect dart toys and to put air in toy. Allow them to hold pose for
less time or pose that targets an area that doesnt hurt or harm participant.
Participants with Intellectual Disability- Clarify that if they ever need any assistance during game
that they can raise their hand to gain attention for extra help. Also allow more time during activity to
understand rules of game, concept of redemption, and how to use toy. Are allowed assistance from
therapist for any of these areas. If needed allow participant to watch activity with therapist, therapist
should give demonstration of how to play during the activity so they can jump in current game or
play next game.

Activity Title: Upside Down Fun
Source: http://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=7854&context=etd_theses
Equipment: A few bags of small candy, timer
Description of Activity:
This activity incorporates physical stretching and humor that should help participants with issues
such as health, stress, and there general range of motion concerning there lower half of their
body. This is activity starts with each participant finding enough space on a wall but also the
right space were they will comfortable so they can position there back against the wall while
legs are spread up facing the ceiling. Most participants will need some type of help from
therapist to position body and align it correctly so thats its in a straight line. Afterwards
participants will only need minimum help to stay in pose. While in pose participants should relax
while gravity should slowly help them spread out legs wider thus opening hips. While in pose
participants are then allowed to set a time goal that directly relates to a prize or how much candy
they receive. The scale is three minutes small candy, seven minutes two small pieces of candy,
and ten minutes three small pieces of candy. After ten minute mark after every five minutes
participant stays in pose they receive one smaller piece of candy. Also during this activity
participants have three options which are to talk to other participants in open floor discussion,
listen to music, or tell jokes/ be funny. Participants are directly in control of how long they stay
in pose but therapist should preach of the benefits of flexibility to inspire, motivate, and
encourage all participants to be the best they can be. Participants are also free to stop and start
the activity at any time although there time will start over and they should notify therapist
beforehand so they can keep track of time.
Leadership considerations: Although not mandatory therapist should think about warming up
participants with any type of game or exercise so the bodies of participants can be loose before they
participant in activity. This activity can be done groups from three to thirty. With that being said the
facility this activity is taken place in needs wall space for each participant. Therapist should be able
to effectively demonstrate activity and communicate rules associated with it. Also should be able or
have multiple techniques of getting participants to relax or take their mind away from the pose their
currently in.
Adaptations:
Participants with ADHD- If needed can have an adjusted time scale that requires them to stay in pose
for shorter duration with equivalent prize. If necessary time can be added up amongst a selected
amount of times instead of starting over.
Participants with muscle dystrophy- Participants are allowed to participant in activity in a normal
straddle position with back against the wall but top of head facing ceiling. If necessary can
participate in activity by stretching one minute and taking a break another, total time still counts
according to time scale.

Activity Title: Inside Three Point Shootout Tournament
Source:

One http://www.madonna.org/specialized/recreation/open.html
Equipment: Inside Basketball Hoop , two small basketballs, foam basketball tape,
Description of Activity:
This activity allows participants to be competitive and learn some of the basic fundamentals of
basketball. In order to register the tournament all participants must agree to the one condition of the
tournament which is to constantly stretch or be in yoga pose during every game there not directly
playing in. Having agreeing to this participants should get in groups of two. Rules of the game are
fairly simple in which it starts by bouncing basketball three times followed by making one shot from
any range. After this the partner that made the basketball should pass basketball to teammate standing
behind three point line. Participants behind line continue shooting until of one them make a Three
Point Shot earning one point. This forcers both participants behind the line to switch with partners
teammate who then has a turn to shoot the basketball behind the line. This process of switching
continues until one team earns five points and wins the game. The tournament is single elimination
and participants who loose and want to watch should do so while stretching or in yoga pose.
Leadership considerations: This activity can be done with groups of all sizes but preferable
between twenty to thirty participants or ten to fourteen teams. There is little equipment so being able
to explain three point shootout and basic fundamentals of basketball that relate to shooting should
be known. This activity should be explained and demonstrated first before having participants try
practice shots or playing activity. Therapist should also know what a three point line looks like and
have a ability to judge what would be a good position for all participants to shoot from.
Adaptations:
Participants with Multiple sclerosis- Can do activity sitting down in chair if needed and arent
required to move thus playing activity from stationary position with assistance from both therapist
and partner. If needed hoop can be lowered for participant as well. Can also play game with a foam
ball if needed.
Participants with Cognitive disability- Allow more time to understand rules of activity. Also if
necessary therapist should demonstrate but also walk participant through a few practice games before
participant plays in activity. If necessary can play game with lower hoop, limited switching, or lower
height of goal.
