Landscaping Report AGM 2015 - 2nd November 2015.

The last 12 months has seen few changes to Bellvista Estate but there has been a continued
effort on the part of Sunshine Coast Council to maintain and in most cases improve the
parks and gardens that make up the landscape of Bellvista.
In the last few years there has been a very good relationship established between BeCA and
the Parks and Garden Supervisor responsible for the council staff that work in the Bellvista
area. In April 2015, Murray Forsyth, the P & G Supervisor resigned and the position was
advertised by council. There was a temporary replacement appointed so that everything
could carry on as normal.
In the months that followed, there were a couple of line of sight issues identified and dealt
with quickly by the replacement super and the garden team. In all such cases, bushes and
small trees were trimmed back allowing for better visibility. Examples of such issues would
be the pedestrian crossing on Bellvista Blvd and the crossing at Rawson Street Park.
Apart from general garden maintenance and tree trimming, the one most important job
done in Bellvista is parks and lawn mowing. This task has in recent years been done by
contractors. The Bio-pods that are around the estate that filter all the storm water runoff
are also maintained by contractors. These contractors are overseen by the P & G Supervisor
and they have been doing a good job.
In August, the BeCA landscape Co-Ordinator had a meeting with the newly appointed P & G
Supervisor, Graham Smith. Graham confirmed at that meeting that council would continue
its commitment to Bellvista in that there would be (2) fulltime council staff on site to
continue the established parks and garden maintenance program.
The next couple of weeks (weather permitting) there will be planting done to beautify the
entrance to Bellvista at the garden area as you turn left into Bellvista Blvd coming from
Caloundra and also planting at the Bellcarra roundabout.
There will also be the usual weed spraying and mulching done when possible. Council have
also advised that they will be using non-chemical weed sprays wherever possible in an effort
to remove as many chemicals as possible out of the bio-system.
