Lesson Title: Discovering Weather and How Clouds Make Rain
Content Area: Science
Grade Level: Pre- Kindergarten
I. GOALS
A. Objectives:
The students will be able to:
1.) Identify and discuss basic weather conditions
2.) Understand and recognize weather, climate, and atmospheric
processes
3.) Successfully complete an experiment concerning rain clouds

II. ASSESSMENT
A. Formal:
a. Students will come see the teacher after the experiment for a
one on one conference about what they learned from this
experiment. (1,2,3)
b. Students will draw a picture of a weather scene while other
students are in their one on one conference. (2)
B. Informal:
Students will complete an experiment in small groups. (3)
Students will create a concept map with the teacher on weather
before the experiment. (1,2)
III. PROCEDURE
A. Materials and Resources
1.) The Internet to use Inspiration
2.) Smart board/projector
2.) Plastic cups
3.) Water
4.) Shaving Cream
5.) Blue Food Coloring
6.) Paper
7.) Colored pencils
B. Procedure
1.) Anticipatory Set
T will gather students on the floor in the front of the room,
turn on the smart board, and pull up Inspiration to begin a
group concept map on weather.
S will raise their hands and say what they know about
weather.
T will continue to add the information on to the concept map
as the students give ideas.
2.) Experiment
T will break the students into small groups
T will then distribute the materials for the rain cloud
project to each group.
T will demonstrate the rain cloud project in the front of
the room for all of the students to see.
3.) Discussion
T will have students come to her/his desk one by one and have a one on
one conference with them to make sure that they understood the purpose
of the experiment.
S will take a piece of paper and crayons/colored pencils and color a
weather scene while T holds the individual conferences.
4.) Closure
T will have the class rejoin at the front of the room.
T will take volunteers to describe their experience doing the experiment
and what they learned about weather.
T will then pull up the concept map and have the students add anything
that they feel they need to add to their concept map about weather.
