To Whom It May Concern:

As a nursing student, I have worked alongside various populations of patients throughout my clinical
experiences and have had the opportunity to work extensively with the pediatric population both during my
University of Arizona senior Preceptorship on the pediatric medical surgical unit at Banner University Medical
Center and through work experience as an Adaptive and Division of Developmental Disabilities Water Safety
Instructor. Being a part of a health care team will allow me the opportunity to serve diverse populations with the
skills I have gained from my clinical experiences as well as utilize skills from my unique background in
working with children and adults with developmental disabilities.
During my senior Preceptorship I cared for a diverse set of disease processes among a wide range of ages from
trauma and neurological conditions involving children from 12- to 19-years-old to respiratory and autoimmune
conditions among children ages 2- to 13-years-old. By the end of my experience, I was able to handle the full
patient load of four to five patients with minimal assistance from my Preceptor. During the past six years, I have
gained experience working with children and adults with a wide range of developmental, physical, and
cognitive disabilities and their families in which I developed strong working relationships with. Although the
main focus of my job was to teach swimming to children and adults with disabilities, I found that I was also
providing resources and advice for parents and family members in order to promote physical and psychological
health and well-being of the entire family. I found that many of these parents experienced high levels of stress
due to heavy care burden, which was negatively impacting their childs health.
As an honors nursing student, I developed a thesis project proposing evidence-based recommendations to
decrease stress for parents of children with developmental disabilities, in order to improve parental health and
well-being; thus, ultimately improve the health and well-being of the child. Through this extensive work, I have
developed in depth knowledge of this population as well as a working knowledge of the implementation process
of evidence-based, best-practice recommendations into the clinical setting. Through first-hand experience
analyzing research and developing a health care project to improve nursing care, I have established myself in
quality improvement and leadership roles.
I am highly motivated and enjoy working as part of a health care team to provide optimal care to a wide variety
of patient populations. It brings great joy and purpose to my life knowing that I have the ability to make a
positive difference in my patients care by advocating for them and going beyond the standard of care. I look
forward to growing as a nurse and gaining as much experience as possible. I am confident that my ability to
collaborate with a diverse set of populations, commitment to family-centered care, and strive to promote
research-based innovations has prepared me for making a significant contribution toward the nursing
profession. Thank you for your time and consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Chelsey Earnhart
