Organization of the Periodic Table

Vocab Cards
Take a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Fold it
hotdog style. Now fold it hamburger, and
then hamburger again. Open it up if held
portrait, you have 2 columns of 4 squares
Cut paper on creases to make 8 flash
cards.
Tape them in a staggered pile so that you
can see the bottom inch of 7 of the
cards.
Use one card for each of the vocab on the
page Organization of the Periodic Table.

Making Flash cards

Write the vocab word on the front so
you can see it when all the cards are
flat
Write the definition on the back.

The Periodic Table

Glue a copy of the periodic table to make
the center of you foldable
Below the title on this page copy this
diagram

Groups of the Periodic Table

Mini Booklets
Take 1 half sheet and 1 full sheet that have glue
and fold lines already marked.
Glue the half page to the full page where
marked.
Fold the glued pages where marked.
Cut both pages all the way through separating
Elements 90-103 from Group 13 2 booklets
Glue the booklets into the foldable
Cut only the top 2 pages to separate the
groups.

Placing mini Booklets

Cut between Elements 90-103 and
Group 13
Glue Booklet beginning with Group 1
below the left side of the periodic
table
Leave a space between the booklets
for a file card
Glue Booklet beginning with Group 1
below the right side of the periodic
table.

Filling in the Group Booklets

On the shorter page (under the
cover) write the group name
On the next 2 pages of for each
group, write the description and
properties of the group on the one
page and the examples on the next.

History of the periodic table

Glue file card on left edge. Copy the notes

below on to the card

Periodic Table - An arrangement of

elements in order of increasing atomic
numbers that demonstrates the periodic
patterns that occur among the elements.
1. Mendeleev was the first scientist to
notice the relationship between the
elements
Arranged his periodic table by atomic
mass.
2. Moseley later discovered the elements

Atomic Math/Drawing Reminders

On file card between the Group booklets
summarize the following

Atomic Math: How do you

find/calculate:
# protons
# electrons (neutral)
# neutrons
Bohr Model and Lewis Dots:
When do you draw all the
subatomic particles?
When do you draw only the outer

Atomic Math/Drawing
Reminders
Octet rule:
An element is most stable with 8
valence electrons
Elements will join chemically to get 8
valence electrons
Can gain, lose, or share electrons
Exception: duet rule in 1st energy level
