Welcome to Biology! The following requirements are designed to inform students about the rules and expectations in
the science classroom.
Class Rules
1.
Always respect yourself, your fellow classmates, and the teacher(s).
1.
Always be in your seat when the bell rings and be prepared to start class (pencils sharpened, assignments ready).
1.
Bring required materials with you everyday!
1.
In addition, all school rules, as outlined in your student handbook, must be followed at all times.
Materials
Each student is expected to bring to class every day:
1.
A 3-ring binder used just for Biology. Your binder should have three sections for Do Nows, Notes, and Handouts.
You should also have paper in your binder.
1.
A pen (only blue or black ink will be accepted) and pencil.
1.
Assignment book/agenda (to write down assignments and due dates).
1.
Text book when told to bring it to class.
*Textbooks must be covered at all times. Please replace worn covers before they fall off.*
Homework
Written homework assignments will be given several times each week. Students should look at the homework board and
class website everyday to check for assignments that must be completed.

If homework is assigned:
1.
All assignments will be given a due date on which they will be collected or checked.
1.
On the due date the homework assignment must be with you when you come to class.

If no homework is assigned:
1.
Spend 15 minutes reviewing notes, Do Nows, and handouts. This will help to ensure better
understanding of the topics being discussed.
Class Work/Lab Work
Students will be made aware of due dates for all class assignments and laboratory exercises/reports. Time will be
given to work on these in class. Some of these assignments may need to be completed at home. In any lab
assignment, be sure to follow the safety procedures or you may be removed from the activity, receive a safety
violation, and/or receive no credit.
Tests
Tests will be used at the end of each chapter to assess student understanding. Sufficient time will be given to
complete all tests in class. Questions will be asked in a variety of forms, including, but not limited to, multiple choice,
fill in the blanks, labeling, matching, and written responses. Tests will be announced in advance. Please do not wait
until the last minute to study or get extra help.
Quizzes
Quizzes will be given about once a week to check for understanding. Be prepared for a quiz at any time. Remember, if
you dont have homework you should still be studying your notes.
Late Work Policy
ALL homework, class work, lab work, and projects must be handed in on the assigned due date. You must have your
assignments with you at the start of class. You will not be allowed to go back to your locker to get an assignment.
Each student is given one free pass on handing in late work each marking period. The late pass does not excuse you
from the assignment, but allows you to hand the assignment in the next day. After you have used your free pass, no
credit will be given for work turned in late. Assignments will be posted daily in the front of the classroom and on the
class website.

Make-up Policy

School policy for make-up work will be followed.

When you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed. Check with a reliable
classmate or the binder in the front of the room to obtain missed notes.

Any assignments that were due on the day of your absence are to be turned in the day of your return.

When you are absent, you have the number of days absent to make up any missed assignments. 1 day absent = 1
day to make up assignment.

If you miss a test or a quiz, be prepared to make it up on the day you return to class. Tests are announced in
advance; therefore no excuses will be accepted as to why you are not able to make up the test once you return to
class.

If you miss a lab you have one week to make it up or you give up the right to make up the lab and will receive a
zero.
Attendance/Late
The school policy for attendance and lateness to class will be followed. If you are not in the classroom by the time the
bell rings you will be marked late.
Safety

Fire Exit: See procedures outlined above or near the door.

Note the location of the eyewash, emergency shower, fire extinguisher, and fire blanket.

Goggles, gloves, and aprons must be worn during labs. No open toed shoes. Long hair should be pulled back away
from your face.

No food or drink is allowed in class, unless teacher approved or supplied.

Report all accidents or injuries to the teacher immediately.

Extra Help
I will be available to provide academic assistance after school if needed. It is your responsibility to make
arrangements with me as early as possible if you would like/need help. If you are having trouble with any concept
please let me know right away so that I can help you be as successful as possible in Biology this year.
Academic Honesty
It is expected that all students will complete their own work. Copying the work of others is plagiarism and will not
be tolerated. CHEATING is 100% unacceptable and if you are found cheating on a test, quiz, assignment, etc. you will
receive a zero and appropriate disciplinary action.
