1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
Most of the Job stuff that you see is actually true. That is why it is such an amazing profession!
However, the parts that you didnt anticipate is running the business part which is difficult no matter
what, and managing stuff.
2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?
(educational level and requirements)My current education level is Doctorate with master, and I am
required to have CEU hours per year, However I go to multiple meetings per year and exceed the limit.

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
Well since no one does it the same I cant speak for them, but my day to day activities include getting to
work at 6;30, Treatment planning a case, starting to see patients at 8, will up another case through lunch,
see patients until 5:30, and then stay here till 7 catching up on paper work.

4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?

Very secure in my current position, the future of the profession is in jeopardy as more corporate
clinics with high doctor turnover, continue to open in addition most of the public is still largely
uneducated to the differences between a general dentist that dabbles in orthodontics and has taken a
couple of weekend courses versus a accredited, board certified orthodontist with a masters degree.

5. How has school prepared you for your job?

All of my years of schooling only prepared me enough to know what to do, but not what I should
do when. The should and the when is wisdom. I was blessed to have a mentor that gave me as much
wisdom as he could impart to teach the should and the when. To not only have excellence but
efficiency.

6. What potential for growth is there in your field?

(growth potential)
The field of orthodontics is constantly improving and changing and growing in that there are always
technological advances to help you do things easier and better. Also your individual practice is changing
over every two years. The practice you had two years prior is not the same. Yu have to reinvent yourself
and keep things fresh as you can

7. What made you choose Orthodontics over general Dentistry?

I chose orthodontics past dentistry because it is a specialty in dentistry that you and never become bored
with. Its never the same thing over and over, single case is different and specialized, it is the hardest
specialty to do correct.

8. What in your job is something that you did not learn in school?
Where do I begin. Most of what I do I didnt do in school, but the specifics about what I do I learned from
Larry Radney. you really leave school only knowing enough to be dangerous because you learn things
like an RPE or put braces on, you have all the tools or bag of tricks, however, if you do not diagnose your
case properly you wont know when to use what and even if you did you may not manage the execution
of it appropriately of that case, thats why it is called a practice, because you are dealing with a person
and theres so many different things that could happen when treating a human being. Because nothing
happens exactly like it should on paper because you have the variables of a human involved.

9. Is there any advice that you would give to a student looking into your job?
A lot. If you truly would like to become an orthodontist you must make good grades in high school to get
into an excellent university, you must have an excellent GPA in university to get into a good dental

school, you must be top ten percent or better of your dental school class or better to even think about
applying to orthodontics residency. And above all you must love people.

10. What is something that you take away from your job every day? (learning experience)
I take away a true sense of gratification that I helped create something beautiful.
