I am writing to request that you reconsider your decision to close Penbrook
College. I represent the student body and I have been asked to pass on to you our suggestions regarding essential improvements instead of closure. Due to the prolonged underinvestment in our school, its standards of functionality have been greatly affected, resulting in long-run effects on student achievements. Firstly, being an old school, students were exposed every day to the dangerous conditions of the school buildings that are in a very poor state of repair, leading to noticeable reduced enrolments. The improvement of these conditions might boost their moral and also their academic performance and it might increase the school enrolments in the long-run. Furthermore, the poor investments also lead to the massive shortages of furnishings in classrooms and even sanitation facilities. Its not just about aesthetics good and modern facilities that are durable and easy to clean and repair have a positive effect on both students health and their school development, safeguarding their well being. Lastly, another problem our school has dealt with for a long period of time is the out-dated equipment in the science labs. The replacement of the old equipment with a new and possibly modern one would support better the wide range of teaching and learning strategies and would also adapt the school to future needs. I hope that, in the light of this information, the decision will be reversed and that you will also recognise the great significance of schools in a community, not only as a learning place but also as one of recreation and social interaction.
