NCC ACTIVITIES OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013 - 2014


Annual Report
I feel self-important to perform the dignified task of presenting the Annual Report of
National Cadet Corps (NCC) Troop No: 2/9, Unit: 9(TN) Sig. Coy NCC of National
Engineering College, K.R.Nagar, Kovilpatti. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Army Wing
was raised in our college with the approval of Directorate General of NCC Commodore
U.N.Chithnavis, New Delhi on 28th October 2005 with the sanctioned cadet strength of 100
Cadets. It was started to impart patriotism, discipline and adventure among the engineering
graduate students which constitutes a valuable, vital asset of our nation and to promote
their responsibilities in nation building. Our unit functioned successfully with full strength
of 100 NCC cadets. During this academic year 2014 - 2015, 47 of our NCC Cadets have been
awarded with NCC C-Certificate. Apart from that, 50 (34 Boys and 16 Girls) students were
enrolled as NCC Cadets in this year in our NCC unit from the second year of B.E / B.Tech
Degree Course. In this maiden year, our cadets had actively participated in various NCC
activities and training program. The detailed activities for the academic year 2014-2015 are
submitted here.
General Training Activities of NCC Cadets:
It is mandatory for the senior division NCC Company cadets to undergo 80 hours
training in every training year from June to March. Based on the above, the NCC parade
classes were conducted regularly on Tuesday, Thursday between 06.30 to 08.30 Hrs and on
Saturdays between 07.30 am and 09.30 Hrs. The cadets were provided with refreshment
worth of Rs.20.00 for each parade of 50 minutes. During these parade classes, the cadets
were trained in Drill, Weapon Training, Firing, Map Reading, NCC Organization, Military
History and Signals Training etc.

On behalf of NCC, our institution extended the full cooperation to conduct the Combined
Annual Training Camp (CATC) and the Republic Day cum NCC Sports Camp organized by 9(TN)
Signal Coy NCC at our campus from 27.08.2013 to 16.09.2013 and accommodated about 700 NCC
Cadets including both boys and girls from NCC Unit schools and colleges.
In addition to that, Our College has applied for raising of the new NCC Unit Girls Battalion
and have submitted the application. With respect to the submitted application we have provided the
Camp site for conducting the Girls Battalion Camp at our college from 10.01.2014 to 19.01.2014
organized by 3(TN) Girls BN NCC, Tirunelveli
In addition to the regular NCC activities, our cadets were involved in the disciplinary
committee of our college sports day and annual day celebrations.

NCC Annual Day Celebrations:


The 9th NCC Anniversary and Annual Day Celebration are being conducted for the academic
year 2013-2014 on 12th February 2014. Captain.R.Gunasekaran (Retd. Army Officer) is the Chief
Guest and held in the august presence of Thiru.K.R.Arunachalam, Member, Managing Committee,
Dr.Kn.K.S.K.Chockalingam, Director National Engineering College and Dr.P.Subburaj Principal
National Engineering College. In the eve of NCC Annual Day Celebrations various competitions
have been conducted among NCC cadets in order to inculcate the team spirit among the cadets and
NCC Magazine has been released. The competitions include Best Platoon Competition for Drill
Performance, Best Firer Competition, and Best Athlete Competition etc. The winners are awarded
prizes and certificates on the stage.
