The Night Circus Part III Question 1

In part three of The Night Circus many events happen especially with Celia and Marcos
evolving relationship. They have fallen deeply in love and while they wish and talk about how
they should run away from the circus and challenge, Isobel finds out it was Celia after all who
has Marcos heart and because of this she is furious and hurt. Herr Fredrick Thiessen has died
leaving Celia heart broken and Laine seeks answers for her sisters death that occurred years ago
(in part 2). Meanwhile, Bailey and Poppets friendship has also grown and around the ending
of part three, Poppet asks him to join the circus because she wants him with her, she claims he
belongs there and he is the only solution to the circus bad situation of shutting down.
A lot of problems also happen in this section that counteract with the main events listed.
Celia and Marcos love has sparked tension and disapproval from Mr. A. H. when he finds out
about them in the anniversary reception of the circus held in Chandreshs town house (299). He
is angered by this after Marco confessed his love for her, yet he also feels sorry for Marco
quoting, I am sorry to hear that, It will make the challenge a great deal more difficult for you.
(308). Before Mr. A. H. and Hector talk about this love situation between the components,
Chandresh kills Herr Thiessen with his knife, on Hollows Eve (Halloween) after following him
tent from tent (370-5). All of the events have been specifically dated, with all of them being in
the years 1899 through 1901. The time setting and changing affects the mood in many way but

the one I notice the most is the way these characters speak, they speak the language in a much
more formal and classic way due to the time setting. The parallel plots and time changing create
more mystery and suspense in the book. Not only does it hook reader like myself in the
continuing chapters but it also requires the reader think more to understand.
While reading this part of the book, I have noticed a lot more suspicious actions from
multiple characters than previous parts of the book. In one chapter, Chandresh wonders drunk to
Marcos office and finds multiple papers consisting of random drawings, symbols, notes, and
blueprints. He is angered by Marco inferring that he is working behind his back against him yet
Marco makes all of the papers disappear, frightened by Chandreshs words, Nothing else
remains on the polished-wood surface. Chandresh stumbles, looking from the desk to Marco and
back, unable to focus. (329). Although not stated in the text directly, anyone can infer that
Marco was anxious that Chandresh found all of these papers and although he used his skills to
make it disappear, he was still frightened by this event.
