Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 6. BECOMING A
PROFESSIONAL
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs a) identify and conduct themselves as
members of the early childhood profession. They b) know and use ethical guidelines and other
professional standards related to early childhood practice. They c) are continuous, collaborative
learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work,
making informed decisions that d) integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. They are e)
informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies. (NAEYC,2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:


During my early childhood courses throughout my 2014/2015 school year, I have had the
opportunity to attend different early childhood education conferences and trainings. I have
attended the IAEYC conferences and Conscious Discipline training. I received my Technical
Certification through the early childhood program at Ivy Tech Community College

Analysis of What I Learned:


Through my education journey, I have learned how to collaborate with other supporters and build
relationships with other professionals. Through my professional connections such as
conferences, Conscious Discipline training and other related trainings I have learned how to use
strategies such as positive approaches and techniques to challenging behaviors. During my
experiences I have learned how to demonstrate and reflect on critical aspects of knowledge in the
field.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the


NAEYC Standard:
The artifact that I selected to demonstrate my competences for this standard. These trainings
have helped me become aware of the proper strategies and standards that are related in the early
childhood field through Indiana Foundations, and Conscious Discipline approaches. Through
my training of Conscious Discipline, I learned to be an advocate for young children and their
families by giving techniques of Conscious Discipline to use at home. I have the knowledge how
to use ethical guidelines through Conscious Discipline, trainings, and my education course. I
have the knowledge through the trainings, conference, and course to demonstrate and reflect on
critical aspects of making critical perspective for making informed decisions such as positive
strategies, and positive approaches. I have also gained knowledge through my trainings,
conferences, and course that helped me obtain my technical certificate which has given me
techniques to be an informed advocate for learning practices and procedures.
