Teaching Strategies
WALT write persuasive texts.
Discuss what a persuasive
text is. What do we mean by
persuasive? How can you
persuade someone?
Ask students to choose their
opinion on different things. I
think we should have
chocolate for lunch. I think
we should play football all
day. I think we need more
school holidays. Lets get a
puppy for the class.
Give sts examples of why we
might need a puppy for the
class. Eg A puppy will look
after children when theyre
sad.
Read The Pigeon Wants a
Puppy. Question Who is the
pigeon talking to? How do you
know? What does the pigeon
want? How do you know?
Assist year 1s to write some
sentences convincing
someone that they should
have a puppy. Year 2s work
independently.
