11% of Australians are homosexual or bisexual.

Unlike many countries in the world, Australia continues to discriminate against this "group", through
it's laws.
Many same sex couples wish to marry. They want to do this for the same reasons as their opposite
gender counterparts. They want to publicly acknowledge and celebrate their love and commitment
to each other.
So, why is Australia failing to recognise the demands of the 72% of the population, that support the
introduction of same sex marriage laws?
(GLOBAL STATISTICS AND ADVANTAGES)
If we look at the statistics globally, as of June 2015, twenty major westernised countries have
already introduced the appropriate laws to allow marriage between same sex couples. These
include the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Sweden, , Iceland, , Denmark, France,
Brazil, , New Zealand and Britain. As more and more countries permit the freedom to marry, we are
seeing evidence that families are helped, and communities and countries are made stronger.
Even in the U.S.A the support for same sex couples has been strongly backed by it's president,
Barack Obama. During one of his many speeches, he stated, in 2013 "Our journey is not complete
until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like everyone else under the law". As a result, 38
states have now put laws in place to legalise gay marriage. Importantly, it is stated that, the
legalisation of gay marriages in America will also lower the divorce rate.
What are some of the key benefits, that will come with allowing same sex marriage laws, may you
ask? Well, they will probably include the following:
-A more equal and less discriminatory society.
-A more stable family environment for same sex couples and their children.
-An economic boost to the Wedding Industry
-An improvement in people's understanding and knowledge of the LGBT community, including a
breakdown of the ethnic barriers

(MENTAL HEALTH)
Another major and extremely serious issue to note is the higher than normal mental health and
suicidal facts amongst homosexuals.
In Australia for instance, Homosexual or Bisexual people are twice as likely to have a high or very
high level of mental stress.
Homosexual or Bisexual people are almost 3 times as likely to have suicidal thoughts.
Homosexual or Bisexual people are 5 times as likely to have thought out suicidal plans
Homosexual or Bisexual people are 4 times as likely to have attempted suicide.
All alarming points I am sure you will agree!!!!
While sexuality and gender identity in itself are not causes of suicide and its behaviour's there are
many challenges that face LGBT people day in day out, that trigger these acts.
Have you ever thought there were barriers and challenges that stood in your way?
Im pretty sure most of you are faced with challenges every day. Maybe it was your hair last sunday
morning, or could be that you only have 50% of data left for the month and your only two days in, it
could just be that your makeup was just not on fleek. Whatever the problem, we as humans are
prepared to face it with a little help from our friends. Unfortunately some in this world feel as if they
have no friends to help them pull through. Mental health does exist in the straight society, the
statistics are just not as grim. LGBT individuals are facing constant discrimination from Politicians,
Religions, Society and Themselves which contribute to their problems.

Don't get me wrong though, not all LGBT population are unhappy. I would just think they need a
little more freedom.
If we changed our laws and allowed this freedom to the 1 in 10 Australians that are hurting and
feeling this heart ache, I wonder, would these statistics be as bad as they are?
Instead of sending a message to all Australians that we are all treated fairly and equally, the
governments message currently being sent out is that those classified as gay or lesbian or even
transgendered are excluded from a legal marriage position and that their relationships are a
subject to discrimination. Aren't australian's being told their treated fairly by the government? That
the leader's are doing their best to treat us equal? Am I reading and hearing the same news as
you. While i have been away, there has been a change in the Australian prime minister. It is hoped
that he listens to the 72% of Australian's that support the introduction of same sex marriage
legalisation and all of the obvious benefits that accompany a change in policy.
One last thing. Do the laws need changing? Well is the sky blue?
