ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts,
acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all
help one another, everybody wins.
First and foremost, I want to give my extreme thanks to my Almighty Father
who always guides me all throughout the way and always gave me strength to
accomplish my everyday duty which led this OJT journey possible. Thank You so
much Lord God for the everyday salary called life.
Secondly, I want to extend my heartedly gratitude to my supportive family
who have been my source of inspiration, whose career and passion is to cheer
and lift me up in many different ways, whose passion is to support me whatever
my decisions are as long as it can contribute a moral result in my studies and in
myself as well and never forgets to tap my back every time I did a good job. Of
course to my main, my Mama Lenie and Papa Nick2x who stayed at my side from
beginning to end when I started to face the real world and whom I know that are
and always be proud of what their princess has through.
Thirdly, I want to express my greatest appreciation to my adviser, Engr.
Naomi A. Bajao for motivating me and pushing me to take advantage of the
opportunity that has knocked on my door and for being there whenever I needed
advices and reassurance as well as her overall positivity throughout. She always
motivates us and encourages us to do things on our own, always stimulates us to
stand on our own feet and to prove to others that we are worthy in every way.
I would also like to outspread my gratefulness to SLL International Cables
Specialist and of course to Convergys for giving me this rare opportunity that
made me a better and improved individual. Having this kind of opportunity is very
unusual that is why I am and will always be very pleased because I was able to
belong to the people who were able to take advantage of this prospect as well. To

Alicia Towers and Residences, thank you also for letting us stay in a very comfy
room with air conditioner and Wi-Fi for four months.
Of course, I wont end this part without acknowledging and recognizing the
existence of my colleaguesthe wave60, who have been my second family, my
siblings and my partners in making this experience an inspiring, fulfilling, exciting
and most of all, fun. Because of them, I became responsible and mature enough in
making decisions. They stand as my elder sisters who gave advices when I was
about to do erroneous actions. They even reprimand me like their baby sister
whenever they dont like the way I actwhich is the best thing about them.
Basically, for four months of being together, residing in one apartment, we had a
solid bond of relationship that even an assassin cannot destroy. They truly made
my OJT journey a memorable and extraordinary.
And yes, this journey would not be possible without the leadership and
support of our awesome team leader and amazing SMEs who never gave up on
us even though we mostly had a failing scorecard, who did everything that they
can in order to help us out and turn this experience into achievement, who stayed
with us through ups and downs and believed in our capability in facing a new
challenges in our lives. They always convey that they are very proud and they are
grateful as well because they belong to our team.
On that ride to the real world, I never forgot to capture a lot of random
photographs because I believe that every happy moments should be documented
and should never be forgotten.

From: May 13, 2014

To : May 31, 2014

May 13, 2014 when I first started to

step into the world of reality. I really had
a blank space that day like no idea at all
even a scenario of how working in an
office looks like. Good thing because I
had this officemate whom I knew a little
because we are living in the same
Municipality. I had this what-to-dotoday face as well because I dont have
any idea what my job will be. So I asked
my colleague and my supervisor as well
if what are the works or the tasks they
commonly do. So they gave me
something to do that was same to what
theyre doing as well.
First day of my On-The-Job Training
was good, so far! I did encoding of
reports from different areas with
different orders. Encoding the materials
and the modem that were used. And I
got some knowledge at the end of the
day. On the second day, I could feel that
the pressure has just taking place. I took
a phone call for the first time with the
installers for the closing of their reports
and first time as well to have a call
through with the subscribers. It was
great yes but I felt nervous in the first
place. And by the way, I was still at SLL
International
Cables
Specialists
throughout my first five months. On the
following days up until the end of the
month, I was still on the process of
learning and constructing rapport with
my colleagues.

Encoding reports, materials and modem used

Phone calls with the installers
Call through with the subscribers
Closing of Service Orders

From: June 1, 2014

To : June 30, 2014

My second month of training was kind

of exciting. Still encoding of reports and
taking calls with the installers and
subscribers but that time was a bit
different. One of my officemates taught
me how to close a service orders and
told me that I should be very careful in
every details to be encoded because that
is the very complicated thing in line with
the job because once the service order is
already closed then suddenly, the
subscriber decided to cancel their order
then you will be obliged to pay thirty
thousand for the replenishment of the
service order that has been closed. That
is the purpose of having a call though
with the subscriber, to confirm if their
internet connection and telephone line
are working already and are ready for
closing. So I was like, Should I? Or I
should not. But since I wanted to have a
challenging job, I took the opportunity
with open arms and did what was being
told. And I was really defied, indeed! But
the good thing was, I did not fail.

Encoding
Phone calls

From: July 1, 2014

To : July 31, 2014

As usual, I did encoding of reports the

whole morning. After Ive finished all the
reports, I focused with the phone calls
and guess what? I had my first phone
call with a foreign man that day. I was
really mesmerized and got tongue-tied. I
cannot even open my mouth. But the
good thing is, he can understand a little
vernacular language. Later on, I got a
call from the installer for the closing of
application of the subscriber and as
tradition in the workplace, a call through
will then follow. So when I dialed the
telephone, someone picked it up and
started to talk with a very dark voice in
an American accent and I was like
Again? with a big question mark
because basically, I am not used to talk
to a person in an English language
because I find it awkward especially if I
have a colleague sitting beside me. So
that day was considered as an English
Day, indeed!

Transferred to another department

Meeting with the General Manager
Encoding
Scanning

From: August 1, 2014

To : August 31, 2014

Ive heard from our Project Manager

that I will be transferring to another
department, Project support team to be
specific which was handled by the
General Manager. That broadcast
triggered a changes and a bit stress to
me because my previous manager told
me that I will be under the management
of Sir Roger Galamay who is the general
manager of the company. I felt better
when I saw my co-OJT at the coffee
shop because we will be isolated in one
team.
On the following day which was my
first day as a member of the team, I was
terrified because the General manager
always calls up for a meeting and
constantly asking for an update of the
project and requires us to explore and
go beyond broad things not just only
paperwork all the time. And since I was
new at that meet up thingy, what I did all
the time was just observing them since I
dont have any idea yet what were the
discussion all about. On my second
session to this team, Miss Mayet who
was my handler, my instructor and my
mentor as well taught me about her
function in line with her position and
shared her knowledge about billing. The
good thing is that, I can easily adapt and
catch up some of the things she taught.
After then, it turned out to be my duty to
do the billing thingy. It was okay tho but
then, it turned out to be stressful as what
Ive expected. But at least, Ive learned
something new and by the time that the
General Manager calls up for a meeting
again, I would have some knowledge to

share.

I was tasked to encode the daily
activity of the project support team. Of
course, for me to be able to distinguish
what they were doing I need to call them
and asked which site they were they and
what were the activities they were doing.
At the same time, I also did scanning
and photocopying their daily activities
and as usual, the general manager calls
up for a meeting again to ask for an
update and what were the improvements
of the project. Also, he wants us to try
something broad. I had this officemate
and a friend of mine and he is an OJT as
well who were very good in AutoCad so I
asked him to teach me. I practiced the
basics with his assistance. Good thing I
can easily catch up the basic steps and
procedures.

Retail Dept. / Customer Service Rep.

Learning /Insights:
Our school calls up for a meeting to
all OJTs because one of the prominent
companies in Cebu offered an
opportunity to all the interns to render
half of the mandatory time in their
establishment. On the following day, one
of the companys representative went to
our school to conduct an orientation for
us to have an overview regarding with
the
flow
of
our
duties
and
responsibilities and discussed the dos
and donts and what would be our job as
well. On the next day, another company
representative came. She conducted an
examination for us to be identified that
will belong to that particular account and
to another account as well. I may not
able to reach the passing score but I was
still thankful because I belong to the
retail department which was easier than
the other account.
On the following week, we had a ten
days training at school which was
handled by Renville Jay Cabrillosour
trainer. He was also from Convergys
who was assigned to work off-site.
Better enough as when the training
started, we were able to gain information
and had an idea or a scenario in line with
the job that we will be facing. That was
the time we distinguished that we will be
engaging calls with a foreign people. I
felt enthusiastic and nervous at the
same time. Included in our training were
our mock calls in which we can practice
on composing our thoughts and
constructing our statements to be
delivered to the customers. We had
three graded mock calls and good thing
because I was able to sustain in passing
the three graded mock calls. On the last
day of our training were our graduation
and the announcement of the names of
the interns who passed the training and
will go through the internship in
Convergys. Of course we were nervous
at that very moment because we want all
of us to pass. So by the time it was
formally announced, I was really like
Achievement it is. Guess what? All of
us passed and will take advantage of the
opportunity that was offered. So the
phone interview followed the next day.

And I was really and will always be very

thankful to God because He did not left
us hanging during the interview and all
of us passed the interview again.
October 25th, 2014, we went to city for
our medical exam. On October 27th was
the very first day of our training as a
Customer Service Associates. We had
mock calls and passed once more.

Taking Calls
Training for Phase 2

Learning /Insights:
Our training was done and we were
asked to take calls already with a real
customer. I was not ready to take calls
on the first two weeks because I was
scared that I would not be able to
answer their questions and give
resolutions to their problem. Lucky
enough because we had our TL and
SMEs who were there every time we
asked for assistance and who always
motivates us. As an intern, we had a
scorecard that we need to pass because
it was their basis in rating us. We have to
be very careful as well in providing
resolutions to the customers because
everything was monitored and recorder
and everything were evaluated. At the
beginning of the week, one of the QAs
would listen to our calls to evaluate our
score and for the Agents Performance
Feedback. They gave comments to
agents of what went well and
suggestions of areas to improve on. And
by the way, we were still a Phase 1 on
the first two weeks of the month which
means we only handle issues that we
were trained for and transfer contacts to
another department if the issue is
beyond our scope. On the third week of
the month, weve undergone training for
Phase 2 which means most of the issues
or concerns will be handled by us. That
was the time that I realized that Phase 1
was the easiest among all because all
we had to do is to transfer the call to the
department who were trained to handle
the issue. So since, we were already on
Phase 2, we had to adjust again. Yes
phase 2 is hard to deal with if you are
just new and you need to listen carefully
with their concern for you to be able to
give a correct resolution that will make
the customers happy and satisfied. You
need to learn a strategy as well in
delivering statements and sound
confident so that the customers will
believe in you. So I applied some of the
techniques which was to think outside
the boxoffer options if possible and
make an exception.

Taking calls

Talking to a customer as usual but

this time is a bit different. The staff calls
up for a meeting for all the TLs and
SMEs and agreed that every team will
only have one SME. So that means, we
had to choose who among our two
SMEs will remain. That was not really an
easy thing to do. Of course as a team,
we did not want one of them to leave
because they became a parents to us as
days goes by and they always let us feel
that we can do it and that they were very
proud of us and we already had a solid
connection with each other but we need
to because that was their policy. Only
one SME left in our team but he never
fail to do his job. He did multi-tasking
just to provide us the information we
needed and to think, we were 19 on the
team versus 2 including our TL. They
always find ways just to help us when
we had a hard time in dealing with the
customers. But of course, since we
knew some techniques already, we were
able to handle the properly. Provided
resolutions, made exceptions without
depending on their approval. All we did
was just to sound confidently even we
dont know the answer, think outside the
box and offered options to the
customers.

It was my first time to celebrate

family because we need to take calls but
we had to deal with it because not all the
time we will depend on our families.
Aside from that, TL did not leave us and
also celebrated the season with us. We
just spent the holidays talking with the
customers. On the first place, I thought
that talking to a real customer was scary
but I was wrong. In fact, talking to them
was fun especially if a customer is easy
to deal with. Yes me encountered an
irate customers but we got used to it
already and we did not consider that as
unusual because before we started
taking calls, our TL gave us a heads up
that we can handle a call with an irate
customer and she also said that what we
need to do is to match the customers
pace with a friendly tone or a tone that
can make them calm. And it is also
better to give a sincere apology and
reassurance to the customer and build
rapport immediately so that they can
forget that they were mad and really
pissed off. And yes it was very effective.
Basically, it was a good thing because
we were able to apply that stratagem
and handled the call as it should be.

Weve heard from a reliable resource

that this will be the last month of our
internship. I felt happy and sad at the
same time. Happy because I was able to
finish this OJT journey well and the next
thing I know is that I will be graduating
and will get my diploma in front of the
crowd. Sad as well because Im going to
miss the memories we had with my
team. For four months, weve been like
siblings that shares with each other
what we have, help one another and
provide counsels who are in need. But I
know everything happens for a reason.
This is not the end but a beginning of
our journey. I am very pleased and
thankful to all the people Ive dealt with
most especially my TL and SMEs, my
team, my wave mates, to the Almighty
Father, to my ever supportive family and
to the company that gave us this rare

Readings....

I. Tips on Work Habits

Success is a positive attitude. More people are fired for a poor attitude than for all
other reasons. Be willing to meet new people, try new activities, and learn new skills.
Listen to instructions carefully; repeat them back to check if you heard correctly; ask
questions.
Don't be afraid to ask for advice or training and thank everyone who helps you.
Ask questions! It is better to ask than to make a mistake because you were afraid to
ask.
Report any mistakes to your immediate supervisor; use the mistake as a learning
experience.
Be able to take criticism; see it as an opportunity to learn something new.
Dress appropriately; ask about the dress code.
Arrive early and work until your shift is over. When you're on the job, work on the job.
If you must be late or absent, phone your supervisor. Miss work for emergencies only.
Except for emergencies, don't make personal phone calls and don't entertain visitors from
your personal life at your work site,
Keep most personal problems at home, but confide in your supervisor if you can't keep
a problem from affecting your work or your demeanor.

Keep your work area neat.

Don't just quit. Talk with your supervisor about any discomfort you may be having and try
to find a solution.

II. Seven Qualities of High Achievers

What makes a person a high achiever in life?
Anthony Robbins writes that there at e

seven characteristics that make a person rise to his potentials:

o Passion. These people have discovered a consumption reason and

purpose that drives them to do and grow. There is no greatness without t a
passion to be great, whether to be an athlete or a scientist.
o Belief. Our beliefs about what we are and what we can be will
determine what we will be. Narrow worldviews can limit our capacities,
whereas belief in what, are possible opens the opportunity for
accomplishing them.
o Strategy. A way of organizing resources. It is also important knowing
what to learn whom to meet, and what to do.
o Clarity of Values. Values are specific belief systems about what is right or
wrong for our lives. They are judgments about what makes life worth living.
Clarity of values and principles is one of the most important keys to
achieving excellence.
o Energy. People who may know what to do and how to do it, but may not
have the vitality to pursue it, will not be able to achieve their dreams. This
vitality is not only physical but also mental and spiritual.
o Bonding power. Successful people have the ability to connect and have
rapport with people.
o Mastery of Communication. The way we communicate with others and
with ourselves will develop the quality of our lives. One must be able to
communicate one's visions and missions.

IV. 5 S Approach for Productivity and Quality Improvement
What is 5S?
"5S" stands for 5 Japanese words all starting with S. But, in the Philippines,
someone translated these Japanese words into 5 English words also starting with S.
Therefore, it is not necessary to remember 5 S in Japanese. What is important is
to understand what it means and practice it rather than just memorizing the words.

VI. Tips for Writing an Application Letter

The purpose of this letter is to get your enclosed resume read and to generate interviews. Use
this type of letter in response to specific job advertisements and vacancy announcements.
Your strategy is to demonstrate that your qualifications fit the requirements of the position.
Study the position description carefully and decide on one or more themes - education,
experience, interests, responsibility, etc. - that show persuasively how well you fit the position.
Link major job dimensions with you related past performances and experience.

Dear Mr. (or Ms.) Last name,
- Start your letter with a grabber-a statement that establishes a connection with your reader, a,
probing question, or a quotable quote, briefly say what job you are applying for.
The mid-section of your letter should be one or two short paragraphs that make relevant points
about your qualifications. You should not summarize your resume. You may incorporate a
column or bullet point format here.
Your last paragraph should initiate action by explaining what you will do next. (e.g., call the
employer) or investigate the reader to contact you to set up an interview. Close by saying
"thank you".
Sincerely yours,

How to Prepare an Effective Resume

1 . Resume Essentials
Before you write, take time to do self-assessment on paper.
2 . The Content of your Resume
Name, address, telephone number, e-mail address
All your contact information should go at the top of your resume.
-Avoid nicknames.
-Use a permanent address. Use your parents' address, a friend's address, or
the address you plan to use after graduation.
-Use a permanent telephone number and include the area code. If you have an
answering machine, record a neutral greeting.
-Add your e-mail address. Many employers will find it useful. (Note: choose an
e-mail address that sounds professional.)
-Include your website address only if the web page reflects your professional
ambitions.
1 . Objective or Summary
An objective tells potential employers the sort of work you're hoping to do.
-Be specific about the job you want.
-Tailor your objective to each employer you target every job you seek.
3 . Education
New graduates without a lot of work experience should list their educational information
first. Alumni can list it after the work experience section.
-Your most recent educational information is listed first.
-Include your degree (MIT, BSEE, BSME), major, institution attended, minor/
concentration.
-Add your grade point average (GPA) if it is high
-Mention academic honors'
2 . Work Experience
Briefly give the employer an overview of work that has taught you skills. Use action words
to describe your duties. Include your work experience in reverse chronological order that
is, put your last job first and work backward to your first, relevant job.
Include:
Title of position
Name of organization
Location of work (town, city)
Dates of employment
Describe your work responsibilities with emphasis on specific skills and
achievements.
4 . Other Information
A staff member at your career services office can advise you on other information to add
to your resume. You may want to add:
-Key or special skills or competencies
-Leadership experience in volunteer organizations
-Participation in sports
-References
7. References
Ask people if they are willing to serve as references before you give their names to a

potential employer. Do not include your reference information on your resume. You
may note at the bottom of your resume: "References furnished on request."
8. Resume Check-up
You've written your resume. It's time to have it reviewed and critiqued by a career
(or counselor. You can also take the following steps to ensure quality:
Content:
-Run a spell check on your resume.
-Get a friend (an English major would do nicely) to do, a grammar review.
-Ask another friend to proofread. The more people who see your resume, the more
likely that misspelled words and awkward phrases will be seen (and corrected).

VIII, Interviewing Tips

Pre-Interview
o Don't insist on making your interview at a time inconvenient for the
interviewer. If you are told just to drop by, ask for a good time frame. Don't
drop in during the lunch hour or too close to closing.
o Think ahead about your skills that are related to the job and be prepared to
discuss them.
o Think about ahead about your realistic job needs and be prepared to ask
question related to having those expectations met. Pay and time off should
be last on the agenda.
o Know the title and all other available details about the job for which you are
applying. Lenin something about, the company, agency, institution, or
department before the interview.
o Dress conservatively. Don't let distractions such as inappropriate grooming
or gum-chewing give a bad impression of you. Remind yourself to maintain
good posture standing and sitting.
o Don't wear perfume; dont smoke just before or during the interview.
o Have your identity card with you. Know your phone number and an
alternate phone number. An email address is helpful.
o Get to the interview a few minutes early. Make sure you know how to get
there and allow .plenty of time. If necessary, call the receptionist for
directions. Go to the interview alone.
The Interview

o As soon as you are in sight of the building where you will be interviewed,
consider yourself on the interview.
o Use the interviewer's last name. If you don't know whether the interview is Miss,
Mrs., Dr., etc., ask the receptionist. The receptionist should be treated with
courtesy also and could be addressed as Mr. or Ms. unless a nameplate
indicates otherwise.
o Shake hands if offered; make eye contact and use a firm handshake, but don't
crush bones!
o Once in the interviewer's office, don't sit down until asked to do so. If offered
anything to eat or drink, it is better to decline the offer with a "No thanks."
o Let the interviewer do most of the talking.
o Try to sound enthusiastic; 'smile. When you have the opportunity, tell the
interviewer why you are interested in the job. Show that you know something
about the organization's purpose.
o Show a willingness to explore new areas and learn new skills, but don't say "I'll
take anything." Be confident but realistic about what you actually can do and
want to do.
o Don't watch your watch, but don't try to prolong the interview or hang around
afterward.
o Don't tell a prospective employer about the turndowns you've had and don't
speak negatively about past employers.
o Don't act disgruntled if you are asked to take employment tests.
o Don't fiddle with objects (pens/pencils/paperclips); keep your hands off the
interviewers' desk.
o If the interviewer doesn't ask everything you'd like him/her to know about you,
offer the information when you have the opportunity to speak.
o At the end of the interview, ask for the next step. Should you call and when? Or
will you be called and when might you expect to hear?
o Thank the interviewer for seeing you. Thank the receptionist for being helpful.
o Go directly home and write a lank-you note to the interviewer.
