Formative Assessment Strategies

1. Kahoot!- An online quiz that can be used for any class subject that allows
both students and the teacher to create an account. Kahoot can be used on
any devise that gets Wi-Fi.
2. KWL- This is a chart that is filled out by students showing what they know,
what they want to know, and what they have learned.
3. Hand Signal- Students hold up their hands, showing a given number after the
teacher has asked a question. This allows the teacher to see where students
are at with their understanding.
4. Sticky Notes- A quick and simple way for students to write down what they
have learned from the lesson or one big take away.
5. My Favorite No- Students write out a problem that was given to them and the
teacher collects the answer and goes over his/her favorite no. The favorite
no is usually a wrong answer that most students get wrong. This allows the
teacher to touch on that specific area.
6. Creating Spinners- The spinners provides questions on them and whatever
question the spinner lands on a student that the teacher calls on has to
answer it. Questions are normally over the lesson.
7. Journaling- This allows students to write down their thoughts/view at the end
of a lesson about what they learned and what they were confused about.
8. One Minute Essay- This is a focused question with a specific goal that can be
answered within a minute or two.
9. Doodle It- Students draw what they understand instead of writing it.
10.Poll Everywhere- This is an app that students can answer a question to using
their mobile phone, web browsers, or Twitter. Responses come in live on the
web.
11.Exit Ticket- Provides quick feedback to the teacher to see if students are
learning or comprehending material after the lesson.
12.Think-Pair-Share- A question asked by the teacher and students are given
time to answer the question. Once the questions are answered students pair
up with another student and discuss their answers.
13.3-2-1- 3 important facts, 2 interesting facts, 1 insight or question. This gives
the teacher quick feedback.
14.Observation- The teacher walks around the room and observes students as
they work to check for understanding and for learning.
15.Self-Assessment- Students reflect on their learning in relation to the lesson
goals and objectives.
16.Individual Whiteboards- This allows the teacher to get instant feedback from
students. If the teacher gives a problem to students they can quickly jot down
the answer.
17.Response Logs- Teachers can write problems on the board and then have
students write in their response log to answer the question.
18.Practice Presentations- Students can practice their presentation before
actually giving it to help them feel more comfortable and be able to see what
areas they need to work on before speaking in front of the class.
19.Learning Logs- These are journals that students fill out as the teacher goes
through the lesson.

20.Quizziz- This helps test student learning. This engages students and provides
with immediate feedback. It is almost like a race to see who will be at the top
of the leader board.
