Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and enjoyment)

is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy Department in order to
develop the skills of undergraduate students in engaginginimprovingtheirteachingpracticesto
better prepare themselves to become professional educators. As part of the Evaluation Team
(ET) my job helps in aiding my Delivery Team (DT) improve their teaching skills through
producing reflective and analytical evaluations regarding their current lessons. This week Tiger
P.R.I.D.E focused on
Skill Themes (unit 4) . My DT for this unit is Lauren Nakaso who willbe
an instructor for Tiger Pride forthenextfewweeks.ThisweekLaureninstructedtwenty4thand
5th graders in Cleveland Elementary on October 20th and October 22nd. During this time
students learned a variety of skills this week that involved the sport of Softball which included
overhand throwing, underhand throwing, ground ball, and batting, this game also included
groups to utilize teamwork/communication. In order to learn these skills effectively students
were placed in many different stations throughout the activity tolearnvarioustechnicalskillsof
Softball. Some of these stations included throwing overhand, Batting, ground balls, and
underhand throwing. In order to evaluate this unit effectively this paper will focus on just two
systematic observations that will assist my DT in improving their skills as an instructor in the
future which will include:
System Observations Idiosyncrasies and System for Observing
FitnessInstructionTime(SOFIT).

SystemObservationsIdiosyncrasies
In using the Idiosyncrasies to analyze Laurens speech during her class instruction, I
noticed that she improved extraordinarily from previous Tiger Pride lessons from the past.
Lauren did excessively use words such as good and perfect throughout the lesson. My
reasoning for not documenting it was due to the fact that students reacted positively from these
specific words more than others in regards to positive reinforcement. Lauren can use many
reinforcing words. Below I have attached a chartthatisusedbymanyinstructorsitis called100

SystemforObservingFitnessInstructionTime(SOFIT)
In using the SOFIT to analyze MVPA during the lesson, I noticed that Lauren did very
well.Shecompleted2223 minutesof moderatetovigorousexerciseduringherlesson.Whichis
a great improvement. Shekeptherstudentsactiveduringinstruction.Manyofthestudentsreally
enjoyed the activities that Lauren created and even helped each other if someone needed help.
