Pre-IB Creative Project: Music, Film & Art.

As a new idea at Nørre Gymnasium this year, we have planned a joint project
consisting of the 3 creative subjects: Music, Film and Visual Arts, for the
students in our Pre-IB class. The students work in groups and each group
produces a music video. The project is compulsory and takes place in a
concentrated period of 5 months. By the end of the course, the students and
their teachers will arrange a ‘small’ galla event.

Description of the joint creative project

Topic: music videos

The class is divided into 2 parts and 6 production units. These teams are necessary when the
students are being introduced to the technical equipment in Art and Film. Each of the
production units will produce their own music video: Choose music, work out
stills/graphics/animations/intros in Adobe Photoshop 7.0, shoot film sequences and edit the
finished product (- a combination of computer stills, music and film) in the film department.

The technical tasks involved in getting to know the options in Photoshop 7.0 and the editing
and shooting of film are by far the most time consuming part of the project. The order and
degree to which the subjects contribute to the project are therefore as follows: Music starts
out using 8 modules on giving an introduction to the topic, forming groups and encouraging
the groups to find adequate music for their projects.

Art and Film will then take over. The students get to know how to use the equipment (3
production units at a time) and they are encouraged to find creative ways of visualizing the
music they have chosen.

As part of the project, a few joint modules for introduction and evaluation have been added,
and in these the 3 different subject teachers will all be present.

Aims
• To focus on encouraging and motivating the students by working with devices of visual
arts and personal expression
• To provide the students with useful IT-skills.
• To obtain personal responsibility when working with projects in groups
• To give the students the possibility of experiencing the idea of having participated in
the process of creating a piece of art.

Assessment
The project is assessed by the 3 subject teachers who give an individual grade and an
individual comment on:
• the student’s ability to work in groups and with a project
• the student’s ability to be creative
• the student’s IT-skills

Teachers:
music: Jens Thomsen (JT)
art : Karin Waaben (KW)
film : Per Katz (PK)
