This new workforce development initiative will provide three key learning

pathways for successful completion of the program.

Readiness
Discovery and Understanding
Learning and Application of Skills

Effective connection of young adults to employment requires community

collaboration that removes barriers, connects relevant systems & builds education
and employment pathways for success in life. This program is a collaborative of
community partners who have designed a model with aligned actions to prepare a
segment of Long Islands youth for successful careers in STEM Manufacturing. The
Readiness learning component is the first two weeks of the six week training
program entitled What Works at Work.
A common thread among successful workforce development models is a deliberate
focus on both cognitive and non-cognitive abilities. They are high touch and
intentional in focusing on intellectual, technical and social capital development.
To adequately prepare this cohort of young people for the world of work in STEM
Manufacturing, the Readiness training component will elevate the necessary
employability skills including people, personal and workplace that drive high
performance and will attract metropolitan area STEM manufacturing employers.
