Assignment One First Short Essay

This assignment is intended to build your critical thinking skills and your ability to engage in
critical analysis. It must be submitted at the beginning of your tutorial session at 9 am on
Friday, 3rd October, 2014.
TASK:
In his article, Do the Professional Ethics of Chemists and Engineers Differ? Michael Davis
purports that
Engineers uphold and advance the integrity, honor, and dignity of the engineering
profession by:
1. using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare;
2. being honest and impartial, and serving with fidelity the public, their employers
and clients; []
In an essay of 600 650 words analyse the extent to which ethics is a fundamental aspect of
Chemical Engineering. In your essay:
a. Discuss to what extent this statement alludes to ethics
b. Outline the importance of ethics to chemical engineering
c. Explain how ethical standards can be upheld by chemical engineers

3. Your essay must be typewritten and printed on one side of letter size paper. Use 1 margins,
double line spacing, Times New Roman and font size 12.

6. The mark for this assignment represents 10% of your overall grade for this course.
