Designing, Selecting and Sequencing Activities

Ss will read chapters 16-17
After the completion of these chapters, Ss and T will
come together for a class discussion Ss will be
invited to state the main occurrences in these
chapters. T will make a mind map on the whiteboard
consisting of all ideas.
Ss will then work in small groups of 2-4 Ss to make
choices and decide amongst them 15 of the most
important items needed in order to survive on The
Cay. Ss will need to create a document on their iPads
or laptops (1 document per group) and share it with
their teacher in their English folder, so the teacher
has access to the work and can observe items and
reasons for them being listed (in order of
importance).
Ss will share some of the items they have listed with
the class and give their reasons as to why they
believe they are important.
Ss will read chapters 18-19 this will signify the end

T will provide Ss with examples of advertisements in
order to show them why they are enjoyable to
watch, which ones have the greatest appeal and
why, and which ones worked the best and why. After
Ss view these examples, they are directed to create
a storyboard of their own for an advertisement they
plan to produce (based on the island The Cay).
Ss will begin to write scripts for their
advertisements.
T will discuss with Ss any appropriate props or
equipment that Ss can use and are safe to bring to
school.
Ss will finish writing their scripts, practice and
rehearse them and will use the classroom iPads or
laptops to film their short advertisement.
The advertisements will help Ss understand if their
work meets all of the criteria for an exposition. By
keeping this in mind Ss will gain a deeper
understanding of what makes a good exposition and
will become more attentive and aware of various
language features in different texts they may come
across.
Ss will be expected to finish the filming of their
advertisements during this lesson.
