The present study tackled the political and economic
relationships between Britain and the USSR (1927-1921).
It fell into three chapters preceded by an introduction and
followed by a conclusion. The introduction section
examined the ties between Britain and the Soviet Union
during the First World War. It shed light on the nature of
these connection, the British stance towards the Bolshevik
Revolution and Russian withdrawal from the WW1. It also
handled the British role during the Russian Civil War, which
continued for three year. Finally, it demonstrated the role
played by Great Britain during the Polish-Russian war,
which ended in signing the Riga agreement in 1921.

The first chapter discussed the Russian- British
relationships since 1921 till 1923. The researcher traced

the trade negotiations between the two sides and the


problems that faced signing this agreement till reaching a
final covenant in March, 1921. The researcher also
discussed
the
Genoa and Hague economic
Conferences which aimed at settling the due Russian
debts to the Allies and restoring the nationalized property
to its owner. Finally, the researcher examined the Turkish
Straits during Lausanne Conference in 1923, and the
researcher concluded with the warning that Great Britain
issued to Soviets known as Kerizons Warning.

In the second chapter, the researcher handled the
Russian-British relationships under the Labor cabinet in
1924.
The motives behind each partys attempts to
diplomatic understanding as well as the Soviet
governments official recognition of the Labor government
are also discussed. Moreover, this chapter also tackled the
conference held from April to August in London in 1924 to
settle the standing issues between the two countries.
Finally, this chapter examined the case of Zenoves
speech and its impact on the future relations between the
two countries.

Finally, the third chapter tackled the tensions that
blurred the ties between the two countries till its official
severance on May 26, 1927. It discussed the treaties
signed by the Soviet Government to foil the British plans
to form a unified adversary front to Russia.
It also
handled the Soviet role in effecting a strike in Britain in
May, 1926 and its impact on encouraging the extreme
wing within the Conservatives government, which led to
severing the relations after attacking the members of the
Soviet Trade delegation in May 1927, and drafting the
boycott memorandum. The study is concluded with the
aftermath of this boycott on the political, economic and
international levels.
