INTRODUCTION
Warm up:
Recap on
previous
maths
lesson to
gain prior
knowledge of
Ss on the
topic.

mins
T will begin lesson by asking Ss to engage in silent reading for 10 mins on arrival after lunch
T will begin the lesson off by explaining the rules and class expectations for the lesson.
T will then introduce the content for the lesson, being chance.
T will question Ss on what they know about chance and where they might see it through key
questioning:
What is chance?
Where do you think chance is applied?
Why do we use chance?
T will then continue the lesson by distributing chance words on cards to the Ss in small groups.
No chance, Impossible, highly unlikely, unlikely, 50/50, even chance, likely, highly likely, certain,
fat chance
With the given terms, Ss will be asked to discuss the meaning and the use of such terms and
create
a
poster
that
will
be
presented
to
the
class.
- Ss can present the meanings of the terms on the poster and give an example of each word in a
sentence.
T will question Ss to see if everyone is on the right track or has any questions.
In groups, Ss will then be asked to present their poster to the class, explaining the meaning of the
terms found with an example of each word in a sentence.
T will then ask Ss as a class if they could brainstorm any other terms that can be used to
describe the chance of something happening.
T will encourage Ss to think in both numbers and words to describe chance.
T will be recording all terms on a table on the Smart Board
Organisation:
Ss will be seated at
their group tables.
T will be based at the
front of the class.

Once Ss have engaged in sharing their poster to their peers, Ss will be given statements and be
asked to arrange them on a life size time line.
Ss measure a 2 metre length of tape.
Ss will be asked to arrange these statements on a time line as the following:

T will explain to the Ss that they will be playing a game online to quiz their knowledge on chance
to finish off the lesson.
T will advise group leaders to collect a chrome book from the trolley and log onto https://kahoot.it
T will provide Ss with a game pin and instruct them to log on 506777.
Ss will play game until finished.
T will then instruct Ss to pack away devices and return to the floor promptly and quietly.
T and Ss will recap on the days lesson through asking Key questions:
What would you like to learn about in relation to chance next lesson?
What did you enjoy about the lesson?
Does anybody have any questions?
Once students have engaged in discussion they will then be asked to stand up ready for
