Tool Mastery #2 Glogster
Viewable Sample of Tool:

Summary of Usage: Glogster is an online interactive poster creator. It provides a creative

and fun way for students and teachers to present a topic. It includes the options of adding
text, links, video, graphic, and images to your poster. I think this tool would be especially

helpful in presenting a book report in an English class. As I did in my sample, the student
can clearly design each section of the poster for a different category such as character
and setting. As the teacher, I would also make it a requirement to include images of
some kind or an informational video that could be shown (perhaps in part) to the class.
For my sample book report on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, I included a Crash Course
video that analyzes the texts, tells more about the author, and informs on the time period
in which Frankenstein was being written.

No cost to the teacher or students
Unique and creative way to create a poster for a project
Its an interactive poster. Its not just creating a larger graphic of information. It
can include links and videos for further information.
ALCOS Connection:
English Language Arts Grade 9: 9.) By the end of Grade 9, read and
comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the Grades 9-10
text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of
the range. [RL.9-10.10]
Through creating a book report, students would be portraying their overall
knowledge and comprehension of a text as a whole. As the teacher, I would assign
the students a book report to be created on Glogster and then to present to the
class. This technique would be ensuring the comprehension of a text after
completing it as the student would not only be continuing to work with the text,
but also having to retell the story to their classmates as though they had not read
it.
Blooms Taxonomy: Analyzing/Understanding the student would be utilizing
this tool to analyze a particular text for important factors such as character,
setting, and overall plot. This would also be working toward the ultimate goal of
the student comprehending and understanding the text.
ISTE Tech Standards:
2. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather,
evaluate, and use information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information
from a variety of sources and media.
Curriculum Connection:
I would utilize this tool in my English class to ensure student
comprehension of a text. By having to go outside of the text itself and find
other materials on the story, such as links, images, and videos, the student
is being better exposed to the story and, in turn, more likely to remember
and comprehend the text.
