Proposal Final
An identity that I dont affiliate with and dont quite understand is atheism. I consider
myself to be Baptist-Christian. I believe that there is a God. Atheists once believed in a God but
then changed their beliefs saying there isnt a God. A lot were once Christians or raised in church
and knew the Bible and that there was a God, but suddenly decided to believe that there is no
God.
I chose this topic because I want to understand how a person, who once believed in God,
claims that there isnt a God and also how one who is raised in an atheism environment have
those beliefs. I want to understand the reasons behind an atheists way of thinking. Atheism has
always been something I wanted to better understand since I believe in God. I want to know the
reasons behind someones conversion from believing there is a God to saying there is no God.
I have many questions that I have to help me grasp why someone would become an
Atheist. Why can someone who once believed in God change and claim there is no God? For me
I dont see how someone can stop trusting in God. What makes a person change their viewpoint
of God? How was an atheist raised? I was raised in a home where my dad was Jewish and my
mom was a devote Christian. How a person is raised will definitely affect their beliefs. Where
did atheism originate from? What are the scientific reasons behind why people are atheists?

Science will definitely play a huge role in a persons beliefs. Evolution is the reason why it is
hard for some people to believe in the Bible and what It has to say about creation. What are some
point between a religious person and an atheist? Seeing different points-of-views will give me
more information on why a person believes what he believes. There are so many unanswered
questions on this topic that I have.
I will do most of my research based on authors who have experienced this conversion
from Christianity to Atheism. Reading personal memoirs of atheists will definitely help me grasp
a better idea of why a person is that way. Age difference will also be a good resource since
everyone learns more when they are older and have a better understanding of things rather than
when they were younger. I will research mainly scientists since they are some of atheisms
primary supporters. Getting an interview with an atheist will help me learn more since I will be
getting more one-on-one information. An interview will also help me understand an atheist
better.
My results shouldnt be so much that I have to narrow it down. It will honestly for me be
a good enough topic that I will get just enough information. If I do come across the problem of
having too much information, I will narrow my topic more on atheists who were once Christians
that converted over to atheism. If I dont get enough I might broaden my topic on religions that
are against God and the Bible so that way I can get more information to use to write my paper.
