THE FACTS:
1) Red Light Cameras DO NOT improve safety, longer yellow light times do! “A study conducted by Texas
A & M University found that adding one second of yellow decreases crashes 35 to 40 percent and
violations by 60 percent.” - Jeff Goldblatt, FOX Chicago News, 08 Mar 2010

2) Red Light Cameras are a hidden tax to generate revenue while masquerading as a measure to keep us
safer. Red Light Camera companies take a percentage of EVERY TICKET, and are spending big money in
Springfield to prevent reform in Illinois. The red light camera company’s are not even American!

3) Independent studies show that lowering yellow light times by 1 second increase red light violations by
100%, giving Municipal Governments a financial incentive to reduce the length of the yellow light.
Instead of making us safer, Red Light Cameras are creating more dangerous intersections.  They
distract drivers which increase the risk of accidents.
