What is literature?

Most people, when they hear the word literature, understand what it means.
That literature is a term used to describe written or spoken material and can
be a fast escape from reality . Broadly speaking, "literature" is used to
describe anything from creative writing to more technical or scientific works.
But literature can be classified as having two major formsfiction and nonfictionand two major techniquespoetry and prose.Poetry is often
considered the oldest form of literature. Before writing was invented, oral
stories were commonly put into some sort of poetic form to make them easier
to remember and recite. Prose can be defined as any kind of written text that
isnt poetry. The most typical varieties of prose are novels and short stories,
while other types include letters, diaries, journals.About creating prose or
poetry personally speaking, poetry poses the bigger challenge. Poetry comes
with a whole set of challenges ,while prose is free of pattern rules. Rhyme is
poetry's best friend and worst enemy. Take the word "love," for example.
What will you rhyme it with ? Glove? Shove? That is just a simple example,
but it takes a lot of effort to make your poem say what you want it to without
sounding forced.
Literature represents a language or a people: culture and tradition. But,
literature is more important than just a historical or cultural artifact.
Literature introduces us to new worlds of experience. We learn about books
and literature; we enjoy the comedies and the tragedies of poems, stories,
and plays; and we may even grow and evolve through our literary journey
with books. Ultimately, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at
what the author says and how he/she says it. We may interpret the author's
message.
Literature is important to us because it speaks to us, it is universal, and it
affects us. "Even when it is ugly, literature is beautiful."
