School Magazine Analysis 3

The route of the eye starts at the logo

and goes through the masthead. It then
goes through the picture and finally
across through the cover lines.

The first two hotspots have nothing of

interest; however the second two draw
attention towards the students that spell
out “Proud”.

The front cover uses a lot of banners;

this draws attention to various parts of
the page and separates each segment.

Only two images are use in this front cover. The first is the logo; this is the first thing seen and so gives a
recognisable symbol for the viewer to follow. The second is a picture of a group of students spelling out the word
“proud” this puts the connotation of success on their school, the fact that all the children are standing together
to spell this suggests the wide span of success and the strong relationship they have.

The colours used are all blue, white and red. These are all very bright colours which help it stand out and relates
to the target audience. All colours also contrast from each other making each individual piece stand out. This is
by far the best use of colour I have analysed in the school magazines.

The first Piece of text we see is the college name, this helps to stop cause any confusion that could be made and
allows the reader to be aware of what it is. Next we see the masthead “the elephant” an easy name to
remember which may stay in the readers mind but not as effective as the previous one I analysed. We of course
then see a date for convenience and reference as all magazines do. Under the image we get a range of
coverlines, all of these are very short and simple and yet give enough detail to the reader e.g. “Developments in
I.C.T.” Under these coverlines we get a list of phrases to represent the school such as learning and courage, these
connote the achievements of the school making themselves seem much better.

The target audience is B-D school girls, as it’s an all girl’s school. I think appeals to them very well with the bright
colours to draw them in. There is also positive language to make them feel motivated and proud to read the
school magazine. The image used gives an important factor as it shows a large group of girls which are al likely to
be there target audience and so would compel people like these to read it.
