MAINTENANCE MANUAL,
MAIN LANDING GEAR — REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
General
The main Landing gear may be removed and installed without special
equipment; by using man power to maneuver the gear into or out of
position. Three men are required to handle the gear.
The gear removal procedure described in this section does not require the
use of special tools. If desired, a Main Landing Gear Dolly, is
available for gear handling.
Equipment and Materials
Ground lock assemblies - (Ref 32-00-01)
Adapter Wrench, Main Gear Trunnion Nut - F0020-5. Use to remove and
install trunnion Link pin nut.
Wrench, Nain Gear Trunnion Link Socket - ST2580-202. Use to remove and
install main Landing gear forward trunnion bearing bolt.
Spanner Wrench, Main Gear Forward Trunnion Bearing - 7NE65-73761-1. Use
to remove forward trunnion bearing assembly from landing gear beam, and
to tighten assembly in beam while installed on trunnion Link.
Torque Wrench Adapter - F80176-1. Use to torque aft trunnion bearing
nut.
Length of rope or cord for extending dounLock springs during installation
of main landing gear.
Main Landing Gear Thread Protector and Pin Alignment Tool - F80141-1.
Use on end of shock strut upper journal to facilitate entry into aft
trunnion bearing.

(2) Alternate — F80016-19 - Applicable to airplanes with antirotation

(7) On airplanes without grease reservoir, slide bearing, with Flange
facing shock strut on trunnion journal. Add keywasher (1) and shock
strut attachment nut (4).
(8) On airplanes with grease reservoir, slide bearing assenbly on
‘trunnion journal with grease seal toward the shack strut on trunnion
journsl. Add key, washer, and fuse nut.
(92 On airplanes without grease reservoir, tighten mut (4) 1090 to 1200
poundhinches lube torque. Lockwire nut.
(40) on airplanes with grease reservoir, tighten fuse nut 1000 to 1200
pound-inehes Lube torque. Inotall washers and leckbalt and lockwire
lockbolt.
When gear has been Lowered until top of shock strut is clear of wheel,
well, assemble trunnion Link and drag strut. Leave nuts finger-right.
Continue to lower gear until gear will clear underside of wing
With three men supporting shock strut, pull gear cut from under airplane.
Roll gear back until apox of trunnion Link and drag atrut ean be louorad
onto trestle or other support.
MOLE: Care mst be taken to avoid touching main gear damper on ground
Check both forward and rear trunnion bearings for danage or excessive
(4) "Tf dianetral clearance between ball and cuter race of forward and
aft trunnion bearing exceeds 0.015 inch, bearing must be replaced
(Ref 32-14-101 R/T far forward bearing).

(2) Serew out trunnion bearing essembly (4 or 14, Fig. 08) and remove
trunnion Link from eirp Lane.
(2) Th necessary, due to damage or wear, remove forward trunnion bearing
assembly from Cink.
Provide access to trunnion bearing (Fig. 406).
GD" on airplanes without grease reservoir, remove dust covers.
(@) on airplanes with grease reservoir, unscrew trunnion bearing grease
reservoir trom aft cide of landing gear support be:
remove and discard bearing attachment bolts.
On airplanes with grease reservoir:
(> Renove Lockbolt, fuse nut, washer and key.
(BD Remove retetner’ Lock retention Bolte, bt

Gently Lower gear (Stage 5, Fig. 407) and simuLtancously roll gear aft
Ae the sane time, drive aft trunnion bearing forward and out from Landing
gear beam.
SAULLON: 0 NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO DRIVE BEARING FRON SEAM. GOTH
BEARING AND BEAM MAY SE DARAGED.
OTE: If beering resists removal, preceed as follows:
(2) on airplanes without grease reservoir, cut Lockuire and renove shock
strut attachment rut (4, Fig. 406) and keywasher (1).
(2) Gently lower geer snd draw trunnion out from rear Bearing (3).
(3) hen gear is clear oF sirplane, remove bearing from landing gor
beam.
(4) Clean corrosion or primer trom outside of bearing and inside of
bearing housing in landing gear beam.
() Clean and Light ly Lubricate spherical bearing and shock strut
trunnion journal with Aero SheLl Grease O7-
(6) Clean and Lubricate trunnion Link pin with Nactinox 6Bs6k.
