Explain how information systems and their solutions meet needs and consider sustainability

Manage the creation and communication of ideas and information in collaborative digital projects using validated data and agreed protocols

Task: In pairs you are to design & create a clay animation (Claymation) on windows movie maker.
Section 1: Designing & Planning (Visual Arts & Design & Technology)
1.

Clay Model

Design at least one simple character to create out of modelling clay. Simple is often best. Use different colours of clay.

Your model must have some parts that can be moved, and must be able to keep its shape. Describe what you will use for this, and
how your character will move.

You must draw a coloured diagram showing what your model will be like.

2.

Storyboard

Create a storyboard showing a VERY SIMPLE sequence of images and words to show what will happen in your animated story.

3.

Setting

Design and draw a suitable setting for your story to take place.
Think about what you will use for each part of the setting. (eg. Drawing or picture for backdrop, dolls furniture, leggo, material etc.)
You can create your setting and set up your model in a photocopy paper box.

Section 2: Making (Visual Arts & Design & Technology)

Make your clay model, adjusting parts as needed

Make your setting, adjusting things as needed. Make sure that you use the tools and equipment correctly and safely.

Section 3: Clay animation (Media & Digital Technologies)

Set your characters up in your setting.

Work out the best place for effective photos (best lighting)
Set up your ipad in ONE position for each scene.
Take photos, moving your character a tiny bit at a time for each photo, so that the movement appears smooth.
You will need around 20 photos for one second of movement.
When finished upload all of your photos onto your computer, then copy them into windows movie maker.
You will need to select the photos and use movie maker to edit. i.e. change the speed of each photo to around 0.8 per second, add
sound, transitions (if needed) and credits.
Save your movie

Section 4: Evaluation (Arts & Digital Technologies)

You are to individually evaluate your own clay model, setting and animation, by filling out the student evaluation section of this task sheet.

Planning/Designing (A04, T03)

______/30

Our character design was creative and effective

We described what we would use and how we would make our character move
We drew a coloured diagram showing what our model would look like
We created a simple storyboard to show what would happen in our animated story
We designed and drew a suitable setting for our story to take place
We labelled our setting and described what materials we would use

Making (A02, A03, T04)

______/40

We use a good combinations of colours in our model

Our clay model had some parts that could be moved and could keep its shape easily
Our clay model was well made (neat and detailed)
Our setting was well constructed (everything attached properly with no gaps)
Our setting had an effective background
Our setting had effective props
Everything in our setting was neatly constructed
Overall creativity and effectiveness of setting and model

Animation DT02, DT03, DT04, A02, A03

______/40

Animation told a simple story

Animation had clear, smooth movement
Photography had good lighting
Photos included settings & characters only (without other distractions)
Photos were clearly focused
Camera was in a steady position throughout (no unnecessary movement)
Use of editing techniques (speed, sound)
Overall effect of animation

Evaluation A04, T02

______/20

I was able to critically evaluate my clay model
