Student Investigation #1
Response to Student:
Well done, student. This is an extremely well written and comprehensive piece of work. This report communicates a logical development of ideas
and information, and follows the investigation report format throughout. Your ability to make specific connections between psychological
concepts and the learning and chunking investigation undertaken has demonstrated clear understanding of the investigation process. Both the
Proposal and Strengths and Weaknesses sections were of a very high standard, as was your assessment of validity.
Remember, you can only discuss data collected directly from the investigation. How do you know the socioeconomic status and ethnicity of
participants if they were not required to specify this during the investigation? Be careful also when discussing the significance of the results how
do you know that the results are not statistically significant? You made some good connections between the standard deviations and sample size,
however you might have improved your discussion slightly by drawing some conclusions about the groups you examined, using the standard
deviation. Overall, this report was written to a very high standard and was awarded an A.
Justification:

I2 - The proposal contains a clearly expressed hypothesis, and the student identifies the data to be used to investigate this hypothesis. The student
also identifies the data sets, how the data will be presented, and concludes by articulating their reasoning behind the hypothesis. The student
could have improved their proposal by identifying the research design, and both data types. Overall, the proposal was logical, coherent and
detailed, and has been awarded performance standard A.

I4 - The results section contains a correctly formatted column graph that clearly displays data relevant to the hypothesis. The student has
included an informative title, and has labeled both axes. The graph depicts both the mean and the standard deviations for the independent

variable. The student includes some explanation about the data presented in the graph, to aid the reader to make meaning of the graph. The
student communicates an understanding of the relationship between standard deviation and sample size, however does not have enough
information to conclude if the data is statistically significant. Overall, the results section is of a high standard, also awarded an A.

AE3 - The discussion section is well written, flows logically, and is broken down with the use of clear headings. Some of the students conclusions
are slightly questionable such as why can no evidence be drawn when large standard deviations are present? To improve this section, student
might have made a comparison between standard deviations, to make meaning from this statistic, beyond just connection to sample size. The
student makes some good connections between sample size and reliability, and demonstrates a high level of understanding of the concept of
validity. This section awarded A- as student has made some highly relevant conclusions.

AE2 - Student has included a separate heading again for discussion of sample size and representativeness, which is not necessary and does
include some repetition of information. Student identified several different strengths and weaknesses of the investigation, demonstrating the
ability to think critically about the research design. Student also suggested a range of appropriate suggestions for improvement, with an A+ grade
being awarded for this section.

I3 - The student made several specific and relevant connections between the investigation and possible ethical issues. The student clearly
demonstrates understanding and use of ethical research practices, and was awarded an A for this section.

KU3 - Overall, the report is an extremely well written and comprehensive piece of work. It communicates a logical development of ideas and
information, and follows the investigation report format throughout. The report and graph are presented coherently, and are highly effective,
resulting in an A grade being awarded.

Student Investigation #2
Response to Student:
Good work, student. Your investigation report demonstrates your understanding of key psychological concepts such as ethics, validity, and
reliability. Your proposal was completed to a high standard. The evaluation section was also completed to a good standard, however could have
been improved by clearly separating reliability and validity, and by including a discussion of your interpretation of the results. Your report could
be improved by clearly identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the investigation within a separate section. Throughout the report, some
elaboration is also required to build upon and strengthen the points you are making. There was some confusion surrounding the results section,
as the title of your graph did not match the data displayed. Overall, your report demonstrated a good understanding of key psychological concepts,
and an ability to think critically about the investigation design and results. B-.
Justification:

I1 - The proposal contains a workable hypothesis, and successfully identifies the data sets to be used to investigate this hypothesis. The student
has correctly specified the data types, how the data will be presented, and concludes by articulating the reasoning behind their hypothesis. The
student has attempted to identify research design, however it cannot be experimental because the researcher is unable to manipulate the
independent variable (self assessed learner style). A detailed and somewhat coherent and logical proposal awarded an A- overall.

I4 - The results section displays the data as mean reaction rates effectively in a correctly formatted column graph. The graph includes a title,
labeled axes, and a legend. Graph does not specify the units used, in this case seconds. The title of the graph needs some elaboration, as it does not
appear to match the data displayed in the graph. The graph has included start point data, which was not specified within their hypothesis. Despite

Psychology Assessment #2

Word Count: 1750

not using correct terminology, the student is able to communicate a basic understanding of what the graph is depicting. The results section is
displayed mostly accurately and effectively, and has been awarded a B.

AE3 - Student succinctly interprets the results, however there does not appear to be any discussion as to why the hypothesis was or wasnt
supported. The evaluation section did not specifically refer to the words reliability or validity, but the information contained within this section
demonstrated that the student has an understanding of both concepts. Student makes some good connections between sample size and reliability,
and factors that positively and negatively affect validity. The evaluation and interpretation sections were completed to a good standard, however a
lack of a discussion of results led to a C+ awarded for this section.

I3 - The student identifies several ethical issues specific to the learning and chunking investigation that was undertaken. Elaboration required
for some statements to better communicate whether the practices identified were ethical or potentially unethical. This section demonstrates that
the student understands ethical research practices, and was awarded a B overall.

AE2 - The strengths and weaknesses section was not included as a separate section within this report, and not specifically referred to within the
report by the student. Some weaknesses of the investigation could be located within the evaluation, ethics, and conclusion sections, and was
subsequently awarded a C-.

KU3 - Overall, the whole report somewhat effectively meets the conventions of the report and graph formats. The report included most of the
required headings, and communicated the students knowledge and understanding somewhat effectively. Including further elaboration on points,
and making specific use of psychological terminology could have improved the report. This section awarded a C grade.

Student Investigation #3
Response to Student:
Well done, student. Overall, this report is well written and conveys a strong understanding of key psychological concepts such as validity and
reliability. The ideas discussed in your report flowed logically, and were relevant to your hypothesis and results. The results, interpretation, and
discussion sections were completed to a very high standard. Your proposal featured a good hypothesis however you might want to consider
reviewing research design types. Did the researcher manipulate the independent variable? Also, were both data sets the same type? Your report
and overall grade could have been improved by clearly identifying the weaknesses of the investigation using a separate subheading, and by
discussing more ethical considerations in greater detail. Overall, your report demonstrates a good understanding of key concepts, and makes
some consistent and relevant conclusions. B+
Justification:

I1 - Proposal includes a good and testable hypothesis. Student specifies the data to be used to investigate the hypothesis, and how the data will be
presented. The student has presented strong reasoning for the formulation of their hypothesis in a clear and logical way. The incorrect attempt to
identify the research design indicates that the student is familiar with the requirements of a proposal, but does not fully understand the concept of
research design types. The student successfully identified a data type, however both data sets were not the same type. A well-considered and
clear psychological proposal awarded a B+ overall.

I4 - The results section displays the data as median reaction rates effectively in a correctly formatted column graph, and table. The graph includes
a descriptive title, labeled axes, a legend, and specifies relevant units used (seconds). The table is correctly formatted, and allows for easy

Psychology Assessment #2

comparison between the median reaction rates of the two groups. Student includes an excellent explanation of the results displayed in the graph,
and provides succinct and relevant reasoning as to why the median scores were featured. Overall, this section has been completed highly
accurately and effectively, awarded an A+.

AE3 - Student interprets the results, explains whether the data supports the hypothesis supported, and makes relevant and clear conclusions from
the data. The student also proposes two different possible reasons to account for the faster reaction rates of the musically trained participants.
The discussion of reliability and validity is comprehensive and demonstrates a clear understanding of these key psychological concepts. Overall,
the student formulates highly relevant and logical conclusions, resulting in an A grade being awarded.

I3 - The student identifies one relevant ethical issue specific to the learning and chunking investigation. Student states that investigation design
is not accurate, however more elaboration is required to identify the relevance of this statement to ethical considerations. It appears as though the
student somewhat understands and uses ethical research practices, and has been awarded a C- grade for this section.

AE2 - Through the use of a subheading, student proposes three relevant strengths of the investigation design. The student includes a brief but
relevant critique of the research design within the discussion and evaluation section. There is some attempt to suggest improvements to the
research design within the validity section. This section could be improved through further elaboration, as some ideas appeared incomplete. This
section evaluates procedures and suggests some appropriate improvements, and was awarded a B overall.

KU3 - Overall, the whole report effectively meets the conventions of the report and graph formats. The report included most of the required
headings, and communicated the students knowledge and understanding coherently and highly effectively. The student could have slightly
improved their report by better sorting their ideas under the relevant subheadings. This section was awarded an A-.
