Textbook:
Instructor:

Algebra 2, Glencoe
Ramal Lamar

Class Description: Algebra 2 is an elective mathematics course here at Berkeley Technology

Academy. This class also satisfies the A-G Requirements for University of California and California
State University Admission. In this class the following mathematical concepts will be covered:
(1) Further exploration of the connect between algebra concepts to geometry
concepts
(2) How to construct and test logical arguments
(3) Real world examples and applications of algebra especially to industry.
(4) Preparation for college level and vocational level examinations.
(5) Mathematical computer software to solve and model math problems.
(6) How to construct proofs by contradiction.
(7) How to work in three dimensional (3-D) geometry

Book and Class Notebook:

Each student will be responsible for taking lecture notes and

attending class daily, since all class exercises stem from the
textbook and class notes. Each student should have geometry
notebook with a section for definitions, a section for daily notes and
exercises. Develop the habit of writing a summary page when you
have completed each chapter. Study your notebook regularly.

Materials:
You will need the following materials for this course: pencil, composition notebook,
graphing calculator, scientific calculator, a straightedge and a ruler. We will use Mathematica,
computer software to solve and model more complex problems.
Cooperative Group Work: There will be a lot of cooperative group work with your classmates.
When you are working cooperatively, always be willing to listen to each other, to actively participate,
to ask each other questions, and to help each other when asked. You can accomplish much more
cooperatively than you can individually. And best of all, you'll experience less frustration and have
much more fun.
Attendance: You as a student are expected to be in class everyday on time. If you are late, I will not
let you in class without a pass from the front office. Also if you are late three times, that counts for one
absence. Three absences will result in an automatic F grade in this course. If you know that you will be
absent for class you must give me at least two days notice, otherwise you'll miss valuable class
material.

Daily assignments: Classwork Assignments. will consist of:

Warm Up Problems done in group
Exercise Problems to write in notebook
Special Exploration Activities
Homework Assignments will consist of:
Exercises
Review problems
Special Projects
You will keep all assignments in your binder and I will check your
binders once a week and check for neatness.
Quizzes:

There will be weekly quizzes in class after we've covered a unit. All
the Quizzes count for 25% of your grade.

Tests:

There will be tests at the end of each chapter. The best way to
prepare for the tests are to do all the homework assignments,
especially the review problems, and to do well on the weekly
quizzes.

Grading:

Half the grade is based on academics and the other half is based on behavior
and is broken down as follows:
