Thermal regulation- the body is constantly trying to maintain internal equilibrium which includes a
consent body temperature of 98.6 F (37 C) known as thermal homeostasis
Conduction- occurs when fast moving (warm) molecules hit slow moving (cool) molecules and transfer
energy in form of heat. Example if we jump in a cold piece of water, our body will send heat to warm
the water we are in. so as a result we lose heat.
Radiation- the transfer of thermal energy from one objects surface to another object without physical
contact and without any warming of the space between the two. The two areas where this happens the
most are head and neck. Because those two areas are close blood vessels to the skin carry large
amounts of warm blood. How to prevent this is wear a long sleeve shirt, hat, or gloves to protect skin
form direct sunlight.
Convection- the exchange of heat between hot and cold objects by physical movement in a liquid or gas.
Example the wind travels through our clothing and blows away heat that is between skin and
clothing. How to counteract heat lose/gain..in warm environments wear loose clothing with optimal
ventilation this will help with overheating ..in cold environment wear windproof, flaps over zippers and
drawstring closures with cord locks are useful in maintain thermal homeostasis
Evaporation occurs when perspiration or sweat on the skins surface passes from liquid state to a vapor
causing cooling of the skin.
Respiration is the process by which the body exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide through inhaling and
exhaling
Cotton- advantages- comfortable against skin conduct heat away from body in warm conditions
blocks some wind through the design which is tightly woven patterns disadvantages absorbs water
fast tends to mildew
Wool- advantages conducts little heat insulates even when wet somewhat hydrophobic
disadvantages scratchy wet-dog smell when wet heavy and bulky
Synthetics- advantages lightweight absorb little water effective insulator dry rapidly less prone
to mildew disadvantages expensive melt or burn tend to hold body odor wear out fast little
protection from wind

How to approach teamwork

Teamwork Definitions:
4 Tendencies:
Ideas- group members contribute to collaborative work, favorite question is What if?
People- group people communicate, they want to know who is involved in the decision and to whom it
will affect.
Product- group members value achievement, focus, and quality, they want to know what is going on
Process- group members value procedure, they need structure
