Late this past spring I contacted Kurt Gilliland regarding the communicaon sent
out to Sigma alumni about
each other and the lodge. I
had not received any email
correspondence for some
me and as a result felt in
the dark about the place
which was such a foundaonal element of my college
experience. Was the lodge
in decline? Was I just not
being kept in the loop? How
could I help? Surely there
must be some sort of newsle.er for Sigmas. Right?
It turns out all of
the SigmaAlumni listserv
emails were going to my junk
folder in Outlook. Admi.edly this was not a problem
someone of my age should
ever really run into. A2er all,

I am supposed to be naturally tech uent. However,

out of this silly circumstance
came a great opportunity.
Kurt and I were able to have
a conversaon about how
nice it would be to keep the
alumni base well informed
about the lodge and each
other. It was that conversaon which was able to bring
the Sigmascope publicaon
you are reading right now
back to life.
The Sigmascope, for
those unfamiliar, was an
email publicaon distributed
to the Alpha Sigma alumni
base o and on, most recently ceasing in 2009. The
goal was to have a means to
update everyone on the
great things undergraduates
and alumni were doing in

their lives. Reborn with this

very edion, we hope to be
able to keep you, the reader,
well informed on your brothers, both young and old.
Kurt and I ask each
and every one of you to use
us as your facilitators for this
publicaon. If you know of a
Sigma doing great things
deserving of a spotlight
please be proacve in
wring about that brother
and sending it our way. Also,
we would love to hear feedback on what you would like
to see is this publicaon.

ers who began startups of

their own. Please nd spotlights on Bill Bobbi. (`11),
Zack Clayton (`07), and Clay
Schosshow (`08) on the following page.

included in this, and each
future issue, will be an opportunity to highlight the
great work being done by
brothers all over. Since Kurt
and I can not be apprised to
everything going on with
each sigma alum, we hope
this secon will be driven by

Bill Bobbitt (`11)

Bill graduated from UNC with a BS in
Environmental Science and minors in
both Chemistry and Business Administraon. A2er spending 2 year as an Associate at Boston Consulng Group, Bill
moved to San Francisco to deep dive into
the entrepreneurial world rst working
at Greenstart, a seed-stage investment
company and then co-founding Move
Loot, an online full-service marketplace
for buying and selling used furniture.
Driven to lead a company that is both
protable and good for the planet, Bill
has led Move Loot to raise over $12 million in funding, built a team of 150-

people and counng, and driven strategic

product development for the company
(check out the iOS and Android
apps). Now in San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Atlanta, Charlo.e, Raleigh-Durham and
New York City Move Loot is a favorite
resource for Sigmas across the country in
need of a great deal on quality used furniture and/or who have furniture to
sell! Mike Altho (Sigma 10) is General
Manager for Move Loot in RDU, and numerous other Sigmas have been a part of
Move Loot including Will Curs (13) and
Conor Farese (11).

Zack Clayton (`07)

Zack is Managing Director &
CEO of Three Ships, a data-driven digital
markeng company he founded in 2009.
Three Ships focuses on generang new
leads and new customers for mid-market
companies that have a mandate for
growth. They use strategy consulng,
analycal and creave soluons, and its
own proprietary data and technology to
generate demand across digital channels
specializing in Search Engine Opmizaon, Search Engine Markeng, Digital
Adversing, and Conversion Opmizaon.

Previously, Zach was CEO of New

Media Campaigns, a web and mobile applicaon development company he founded in 2006 as an undergraduate. There he
worked with Alex Pomer ( '09) and Clay
Schossow ( '08). Zach currently serves on
the Board of Directors of Global Cizen
Year, the Foundaon Board at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hills School of Journalism and Mass Communicaon, and the Board of Advisors for
the Broughton Capital Foundaon.
Zach has wri.en for The Hotline,
authored two books, published numerous

arcles on digital media, and appeared on

CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News. Zach holds
an MBA with high disncon from Harvard
Business School, where he was a Baker
Scholar, and a BA from UNC Chapel Hill,
where he was a Morehead Scholar and
elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Nine years later, NMC is fullservice web design and development rm
located in Carrboro, has built almost a
thousand websites and custom applicaons for organizaons around the world.
In addion to companies like
Boeing, IBM and Microso2, nonprots like
Habitat for Humanity, the Rhodes Scholarship and Ronald McDonald House, Universies including UNC, N.C. State and even
Duke, NMC has worked with a wide range

of Sigma alums over the years including

John Wilson (Sigma '85), Dane Anderson
(Sigma '07), Ben Lundin (Sigma '07), Derwin Dubose (Sigma '06), John Holton
(Sigma '07) and Zach Clayton at his new
company, Three Ships.
Clay is widely known for having a
natural business insnct, but his best business decision is widely accepted as being
the hiring of Alex Pomer (Sigma '09), who
was Lodge #4 at the me, is now the senior project manager at NMC and is also the
author of this bio.

Clay Schossow (`08)

Clay "Chow Chow" Schossow
was a Journalism and Polical Science
double major at UNC. During his Junior
year, he co-founded the company New
Media Campaigns, a(n at the me polically-focused) web design company, with
three other UNC undergrads including
Zach Clayton (Sigma '07).
UNC's Entrepreneurship Minor
has a compeon called The Carolina
Challenge. It's a fantasc opportunity for
entrepreneurial undergrads to present
business plans to a group of business
people in the community and the winner
