abletosuccessfullydemonstratetheCOTSforthedanceunitwhileparticipatingin
MVPAwith75%successrateCognitivestudentswillbeabletofindawaytowork
togetherasaclasstohelpunfreezetheirclassmatesintheinstantactivity.Iwillstartthe
lessonusingthecommandstyleteachingstrategy.Usinganinteractiveapproachand
verbalcuestoassistthestudentsinunderstandingthetechniquesthatwillbeusedduring
theactivitieswillprovidetheinstruction.Affectivestudentswillbeabletosupporteach
otherthroughpositiveencouragement.Lastly,HRfitnessstudentswillremainactively
engagedinMVPAatleast50%ofthetimeduringthedurationofthedanceunit.
Accordingtomyevaluationdata,mylessonwasalittleshorterthanitneedtobe.Itwas
difficulttogetthelessonstartedwhenlessthanhalfofthekidswerethereontime.Next
timeIcantryandgetthestudentstohustleoverandnotdelaytherestoftheclass.Iwas
abletocomplete20minutesofMVPA.Thestudentswereabletotellmethecuesodthe
skillandduringtheactivitythestudentswereabletoperformallthecueswithoutmy
help.Ifeltmoststudentsfeltcomfortablewiththeskill.Icancontinuetotryandincrease
myhealthrelatedfitnesstogetthestudentsactiveaspossible.
QualityLearningEnvironment
Whenlookingatmylesson,formyfirstsololesson,IthoughIdidagoodjobfor
the most part addressing the four criteria of the learning experience. My lesson had
maximumpracticetimeforallthestudentsduringbananatag.Duringthestartofthe
dancelessonthestudentswerewatchingmedemonstratethesteps.Soonafter,Ihadthe
studentsfollowalongwithme.Mystudentswereveryengaged,andactivelyparticipating
thewholelesson.Mystudentswereengagedintheactivityfor16minutes,managements
andinstructionfor6minutes.Nexttime,Ineedtokeepmymanagementunder5minutes
anddecreasemyinstructiontimetoincreasemyactivitytimeto18minutesorbetter.
Formanagement,Icouldfindwaystogetmyclassattentionandbecarefulnottocallmy
studentsyouguys.Thislessonwasabletoprovidestudentswithanopportunityto
show off their dancing and rhythm skills. All of my students had an opportunity to
practiceatahighlevelofintensitywhenIplayedthewobble.Theyalllearnedthe
stepsbeforeperformingtothemusic.Iwasabletocountoutthestepsandhavethe
studentscountoutloudtogettherhythmdown.
Thehigherskilledstudentswerestandingmoreinthefrontrowwhilethelowerskilled
studentswereinthebackrowtofollowthepeopleinfrontofthem.Iwasabletoadapt
thelessontohavethestudentsinthebackrowcometothefrontrowandputtheskilled
studentsintheback.Afterlotsofpracticewiththedance,Idividedtheclassinhalf.Ten
ofmystudentswouldperformtheWobbleinfrontoftheirclassmatesandthenthey
wouldswitchasifitwasalittleperformance.
Strengths&WeaknessesinPedagogicalskillset
Duringthisweeklesson,Ididnothavetoomuchmovementduringtheactivity
onlybecausemylessonwasadance.InthebeginningfortheinstantactivityIwasableto
haveagreatdealofmovementsinceitwasatagrelatedgame.Oncethestudentspicked
upthestepstothedanceIwasabletowalkaroundthestudentsfromtheperimeter.
ForthislessonIprovidedthestepstothedancesincetherewerenoparticular
skillIwastryingtoteach.Ifocusedontimingandcounts,gettingherhythmdowntothe
beatofthemusic.Iseemedabitnervousatthestartofmyinstructionandthiscausedme
totenseupwhenIwasdemonstratingthedancemoves.Ineedtolearnmystudentsname
soontohelpmebecomemoreauthoritativeandcallouttherenameswhenneeded.When
givingmyinstructions,ImadesureIhadallofTigerPrideattention.Whenteachinga
dancelessonIneedtomirrorthestudentsintheirdirection.ForanexamplewhenIsaid
gototherightsidethestudentswenttotheleftside.Asateacher,Ineedtoworkinthe
samedirectionasthestudentsaregoing.
Regardstoequipment,Ididnothaveanytroublesettinguptheequipment.Allthe
polyspotsweresetupontheblacktopbeforethestudentscameouttoTigerPride.When
schoolwasover,allthestudentsknewtositontheblacktop.Attheendoftheclass,each
studentpickeduptheirownpolyspotwhenwedidourTigerPridehuddlebeforewedid
ourendofthedaycheer.AsmylessonprogressedIshowedmoreandmoreenthusiasm.
Whenthestudentsrespondedtomylesson/dancemovesitgotmemoreintothedance
movestoo.
WhenIdidthedemonstrationsforthewobble,Iexplainedtotheclassthereare7
evensteps.Ifirstshowedthemthefirstfewstepsthendecidedtohavethestudents
demonstrateitwithmeafterIperformeditstepbystep.Thestepswereverysimpleand
seemedtorepeatthem,whichmadeiteasiertoapplythemusicwiththesongssooner.I
wasabletoprovidefeedbackwhenthemusicwasplayingandIcouldwalkaroundthe
classandgivestudentspointers.TherewerenottoomanyrecommendationsBrandihad
formethislesson.Thisdancelessonseemedtobeverysuccessfulwhichmadeitreally
difficultformyevaluationteam.Theonlythingnoticedwasduringtherunthrough
practicesforthedanceandImighthavestartedtolosesomeoftheirattention.ButIthink
onlybecausetheyfeltliketheyunderstoodandwe'rereadytoactuallydothedance. I
know next lesson is going to be more of a challenge with my instruction and
management.Imusthavesmoothtransitions,clearinstructions,andmakesureIgoover
therules.Ineedtobeapreparedaspossible.
