F15-PHYSICS-59-01 Recommended for prospective Physics majors. In this course, you
will discover the forefront physics research that is happening at Stanford and visit some of the
laboratories where the research is conducted. At each weekly class meeting, you will hear
about the research of one faculty member. In some cases, the session will include a tour of the
professors laboratory facilities. We will also discuss more general issues related to current
research: What are the subfields of physics research? How are they evolving? How does one
become a research physicist? How is physics research funded?

Class meeting time and location: Thursday 4:30 - 5:45, Hewlett 102.
This class is 1 unit only, S/NC grading. Therefore, attendance is required if you want to get
credit. In that case, make sure you sign in at each class. If you don't want credit for this class,
you are welcome to attend anyway. The requirement for receiving an S in the class is to attend at
least 8 of the 10 classes between Thursday, September 25 and Thursday, December 4.
Regardless of your credit choice, if you come to lecture, please be on time!
