Course Name: Entrepreneurial Ventures, Small Business Development Pathway
Course Description: Entrepreneurial Ventures is the third course in the Small Business
Development Career Pathway. This course concentrates on the management skills necessary for
successful business operation. Students will study management strategies for developing and
implementing business plans; structuring the organization; financing the organization; and
managing information, operations, marketing and human resources. International business
principles are infused in the standards for Entrepreneurial Ventures. An integral component of the
Entrepreneurial Ventures course is a school-based or community-based entrepreneurial venture
that will engage students in the creation and management of a business and the challenges of
being a small business owner. Mastery of these standards through project-based learning and
leadership development activities of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will help
prepare students with a competitive edge for the global marketplace. Prior two courses to
complete the seal are Business Essentials and Legal Environment of Business.

Career Opportunities: There has never been a better time to be an entrepreneur. During the
next few years, the biggest economic growth is expected to come from small business. Today's
economy is hospitable to startups, and capital is available for qualified entrepreneurs and
imaginative enterprises. In the corporate world, the practical experience students gain is also
valuable training for many careers in business. The possibilities to work at something you love
are endless.

Learning Objectives / Class Objectives:

Exhibit appropriate oral and written communication skills on personal and professional
levels,
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of an entrepreneur such as leadership,
teambuilding, and management skills,
3. Demonstrate an understanding of basic domestic and international business concepts and how
they are applied to business activities,
4. Utilize technology to facilitate business activities,
5. Implement budgeting and finance techniques,
6. Identify and describe legal components pertaining the business, and
7. Examine the role of marketing in the business process,
8. Demonstrate an understanding of the roles of entrepreneurs in business and economy,
9. Identify and implement components of a business plan to personal endeavors.

Schedule of units to be covered and major assignments:


Projects This class is project-based. Students will be required to take notes, research, perform public
presentations, work in groups to complete various assigned projects. The coursework consists of one to
three days of course lecture, activity, group discussion, and two to three days of project to assess what
theyve learned.
School Store This class is a precursor to working in the school store. Students will be expected to learn
point of sale system functions, inventory management and control, merchandising, purchase and selection
and turn around.

Method of Evaluation:

The students grade will be based upon observation, projects, group integration, and daily class work.
Each nine weeks grade and semester average will be determined by the following scale:

Classroom Policies :
Make up work: Regular attendance is vital. If you are absent, it is imperative that you check with me or
another student to find out what youve missed. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. You must have all work
turned in within two days of being absent (circumstances permitting).
The key to this class is PREPARATION, PREPARATION, and PREPARATION! You must work regularly
on this course. You cannot afford to get behind on assignments as what you learned last week is necessary
to understand and complete the assignments for this week. GROUP WORK IS ALSO A REQUIRED PART
OF THIS COURSE
Deadlines: Technology is not foolproof. Dont wait until the last minute to complete your assignments. You
assignments will be due regardless of any technical difficulties you may experience, so be sure to give
yourself plenty of time to work through any problems. You are responsible for getting me the work on time.
Conduct and Academic Honesty: Failure to comply with CHS policies will result in disciplinary action.

Follow directions the FIRST TIME they are given.

When the bell sounds at the beginning of class, students are expected to

Be quiet and attentive waiting for the teacher to start class (If you fail to do the above you will be
marked tardy.)
Please do not touch without permission: Computers, thermostat, light switches, anything on/in the
teachers desk.
