School-Based Immunization Program “Immunization for the Youth, Protection for the Future” ‘The school-based immunization or vaccination of school-aged children is one of the programs of the Department of Health (DOH) to protect the health of the students. Immunization helps in the elimination of different contagious diseases such as measles, German measles, tetanus, and diphtheria which can be deadly if not prevented. ‘The said program is made possible with the collaboration of the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This will be held in the month of, ‘August in all public schools wherein students from Grade One and Grade Seven (Grades 1 and 7) will receive free vaccination recommended by the DOH to boost the immune system of the children, GRADE ONE (GRADE 1) For parents who have children in Grade One (Grade 1), your children will receive two (2) vaccines. These will bbe given through injection on the left and right arms of the child. 1. Measles Containing Vacine (MCV); and 2. Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) ‘On the first day of school, the immunization cards of your children are needed as the basis for the number of doses of MR to be given. If you cannot present the immunization card or certification from the health center which Serves as a proof that your child has already been vaccinated, he/ she will receive two (2) MR vaccines at one-month interval. GRADE SEVEN (GRADE 7) On the other hand, for those parents who have children im Grade Seven (Grade 7), your children will receive two vaccines (2). These will be given through injection on the right and left arms ofthe child, 1, Measles-Rubella (MR); and 2.Tetanus-Diphtheria. Immunization card or certification that proves that the child is already vaccinated when she was still a baby is not needed. They will automatically be given/vaccinated one (1) dose of MR and one (1) dose of Td. REMINDER: Before giving vaccine to your child/student, itis a must that the parents or “guardian’has already signed the CONSENT FORM, a proof that they have understood and given the consent that their children must be vaccinated with the recommencled vaccine appropriate for their age. Vaccines are safe, effective and used worldwide 3. Only trained health workers will administer the vaccines 4, STUDENTS SHOULD EAT before getting vaccinated 5. Expect tolerable pain at the injection site (“parang kagat ng langgam”) 6. Do not massage injection site after vaccination 7.
