Class Description
This course is designed to focus on the following topics:
a. Foundations of Algebra
f. Transformational Geometry
b. Solving Linear Equations
g. Patterns in Bivariate Data
c. Solving Linear Inequalities
h. Exponents and Exponential Functions
d. Functions
i. The Pythagorean Theorem
e. Linear Function
j. System of Equations and Inequalities
In this course, students will be expected to learn mathematical terminology and the application of
certain properties. We will use tools such as Khans Academy to help strengthen the students
fundamentals and build academic confidence.

Grading scheme for each quarter

50% Tests
25% Quizzes
25% Assignments (in-class work, homework, projects, and mastering objectives in Khans
Academy)

Earning Credit:
Credit is awarded to Algebra 1A students in June only.
1/2 credit is granted if the student has a second semester grade of D or higher
OR
0 credit for an E.

An Algebra 1A student will earn 0.5 (1/2) credit at the end of the year if he/she:
Option 1: Earns a weighted average of 60% or higher, applying the following weights:

If a student does not earn credit under option 1 , then option 2 will be considered to provide
another opportunity for the student to receive credit for the course.
Option 2: Student passes the final exam with a score of 77% or higher.
Homework is assigned on a daily basis. Students are expected to bring their completed
homework the next day. Late homework will receive a deduction of 20% per day. After two
days, the student is awarded a 0.
