a. Why is this value different from Motorolas 6 value of 3.4 DPM ?

Studies have shown that the processes do not perform the same way in the long terms and in
the short terms. To account for this real life increase in process variation, an additional 1.5 shift
was introduced. This means that the process that fits 6 in short term will fit only a 4.5 process
in the long term because the process mean will move over time or the standard deviation of the
process will be greater than the standard deviation observed in the short term.
