Honors World History II
Syllabus/Course Outline

Course Description
Welcome to Honors World History II! This class enables students to explore the historical
development of people, places, and patterns of life from 1500 to the present. Students will study
the origins of much of our heritage using primary documents, maps, pictures, stories, diagrams,
charts, chronological skills, research skills and technology skills. Students will study related
concepts of geography linking how people in various times and cultures influence and are
influenced by their physical and geographical environment. This course is a state-tested SOL
course and students must also pass this exam to receive credit. You will also
complete multiple Document-Based Essays throughout the year.
Required Materials
Binder with at least 7 dividers, paper, writing utensil, highlighter
Expectations
1. Be respectful. I will NOT tolerate hate language of any kind. In addition, use of words that
reference sexuality or sexual acts will be dealt with harshly.
2. Be awake with your head UP. You will not sleep in my class. I will never allow it. Refusing to
pick your head up is disrespectful and will result in being removed by security.
3. Be present and on time. Norview High School attendance and tardy policies will be
enforced. Seven unexcused absences (which includes suspensions) results in a failing grade,
regardless of classroom and test performance.
4. Be prepared with your homework, binder and writing utensil every single class.
5. Bathroom Policy- Students may not leave during the first 20 or last 20 minutes of class or
during Direct Instruction (notes). No passes more than once a week.
6. No passes to see other teachers/guidance counselors/coaches, etc. Theyll find you if they
need you.
7. Academic Integrity: Cheating or Plagiarism of any kind will result in a failing grade for
the assignment and disciplinary action as dictated by the NPS Code of Conduct.
8. Cell Phone- Keep them away and silenced. If I see it on (That includes checking the time-I have
a clock), it goes to Phone Jail (or downstairs with security- your call)
9. All other NPS rules and expectations (Dress code, Tardy passes, etc)
10. Honors expectations- I expect a higher level of performance from Honors students.
This does not include just academics, but also maturity and responsibility. I will not allow the
same conduct that one would see in a regular classroom. Any student who fails to rise to the
challenge will be moved into a more fitting regular setting.
If you choose not to follow the above expectations, your consequences are as follows:
1) Verbal Warning
2) Parent Contact
3) Academic Consequence- This is an additional assignment. Its your chance to
avoid a referral. Failure to complete = referral for original act.

* Changes may be made according to severity of situation. Any deliberate cursing, physical
contact, threatening, electronic devices, cheating or disruptive behavior will skip straight to #4.
