Class Summary:
Students will be learning skills from a broad range of Algebraic
topics that are all required knowledge for the Virginia Standards of
Learning (SOL) exam. These topics include solving equations,
graphing equations, and manipulating algebraic expressions. Such
equations, their solutions, and expressions will contain rationals,
radicals, complex numbers, exponents, rational exponents, and
logarithms. Students will also investigate geometric sequences
and series, normal form distribution, and combinations and
permutations. The main goal in the class will be to prepare
students for the corresponding Standards of Learning exam by
covering the relative curriculum and other tools to give them the
best advantage.
Class Textbook:
Prentice Hall Mathematics: Algebra 2
Class Website:
The class website, www.dsfburrows.weebly.com, contains all
information needed to stay up to date with the scheduling of the
course. The website will contain a schedule of each days lesson,
assignment, and upcoming assessments. The website also
contains the class syllabus and other class handouts/documents.
Homework/Assignments:
Algebra II is a very challenging course due to the amount of
material that is included within the curriculum. That being said,

falling behind the material will significantly affect students

success. Each day, students will be required to complete in-class
note worksheets. These worksheets will either help students
complete their homework assignments, or occasionally finishing
the notes worksheet will become homework itself. Full work is
required to be shown for full credit. Very little credit will be given
for assignments without shown work. Late assignments will be
accepted with a point off for each day late. A higher grade will
always be received for late assignments with shown work, than an
assignment turned in on time without any work shown.
Tests/Quizzes:
Tests will be announced two weeks in advance, and students are
expected to use homework assignments and in-class note
worksheets as study material. Tests will feature a variety of
question formats, and all work will be required to be shown for full
credit.
Classroom Expectations:
Paying attention and participating in class is the most important
classroom expectation. The second foremost important
expectation is to complete in-class note worksheets and all
homework assignments. Cell phones are not allowed to be used in
class, and consequences for any infraction will be in
correspondence with school policy. Cheating will not be accepted
on any assignment, and all cases of cheating will be handled in
alignment with school policy.
Grading Scale:
Tests: 50%
Homework/Note Worksheets: 20%
Quizzes: 30%
