The Burning of the West

By Elton Camp
Of distant smoke theres the smell
A dim haze hangs in the air as well
A pinkish glow in the sky
Shows it is coming nearby
Flames leaping, smoke boiling
Vast woodlands the fire is spoiling
From human lips the refrain
Where or where is the rain?
Therell be none to help out
Due to a historic drought
Like a red hot lava flow
Over everything itll go
Unlike a volcanic hell
It goes uphill as well
People into vehicles to flee
No escape can wildlife see
A catastrophe beyond compare
In fires wrath, all must share
