REACTION PAPER

LITERACY PROGRAM
(AURORA QUEZON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL)

NSTP made its way by literacy training by engaging in some services like
peer tutoring program, with an active cooperation and participation of knowledge
channel team. Its goal is to apply appropriate literacy and collaborative learning
to the chosen lower classes in different schools, and one of these schools is the
Aurora Quezon Elementary School that can be found at Quirino, it is the place
were we made our tutoring program.

Before going to Aurora Quezon Elementary School, the knowledge

channel volunteers provide us seminar. This is composed of self-knowledge,
instructional plan and background of the chosen different schools.

The literacy training service that is offered by National Service Literacy

Program (NSTP) and the program of knowledge channel for public schools
provide an excellent training service for some student who lack literacy and is in
need of additional time of learning.

The Aurora Quezon Elementary School and many other schools open up
their way for this literacy program. By love and gratitude, we started our first day
(our group) by building rapport and camaraderie with students so they would feel
love, secure, and comfortable to us. We get to know each other more when we
provide learning experiences by doing some games, activities, and one-on-one
conversation with our students. Definitely, we started it well.

On the next sessions, our focus is all about their National Achievement
Examination (NAT examination). Trough the review materials provided by the
school, we facilitated their examination in six consecutive sessions. We made it
sure that there is collaborative learning; there are some academic activities,
motivations and one-on-one teaching learning experiences. We recall about the
different parts of speech namely, the noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb,
preposition, conjunction, and interjection. We also use it in sentences. Actually
we also provide some reading material but sad to say we don’t have enough time
to do it. Good thing we also discussed the NAT reviewer. In contrast, there are
also troubled times we have experienced having no rooms, there are some
meetings at the AVR, and there is no conducive place for learning because of the
noise pollution (there are three sections in the AVR room), lack of classroom
materials like chairs, tables, chalks, blackboard and the students are drive by
their hunger. Still, it made its way for learning. Learning is experienced and
learning is part of everywhere. It also involves the four pillars of learning- learning
to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together. Learning to
know what our goal is and what we should provide to achieve an excellent
learning outcome. Learning to do what is right and what is needed for us to
execute well the learning experiences and the learning itself. Learning to be able
to solve his own problems, make his own decisions and shoulder his own
responsibilities. Learning to live together: Education should help in inculcating a
spirit of empathy in students so that it can have a positive effect on their social
behavior throughout their lives. Understanding each other, resolving conflicts
through dialogue and discussion should be the essential tools of present day
education. These four pillars of learning involves experience to understand more,
to do more, to think more, and to live for.

Grade VI-wheeler, the class that we handle is very participative. I really

enjoyed learning with them because there is love. We really love teaching with
them. It’s a feeling of selflessness and the enjoyment that we had, its really worth
all the efforts. I don’t know what is with that section but it really tickles me. Some
say that the last section (section 16) is the worst section because definitely, it’s
the last, but for our group, the last should be the first and the first should be the
last. We should focus more on the least because they most of our attention.
I am very proud of my students Melanie Lapeda and Goldwin Gavin
Shawnee Del Rosario. Melanie is just a little girl, naughty, and likes fun. Goldwin
Shawnee is a good storyteller; she tells everything including her life, and the life
of her classmates. She is very approachable and I like the way she carry herself.
They are not that intelligent but I believe that they can cope with the lessons.
They just lack the focus because there are many factors that affect their learning.
I have always believed in their capabilities, they just lack the guts to pursue what
they want. Teaching is really a noble job. The fulfillment and the joy that they
bring really come from within.

In general, this Literacy Training Service Is a success even there are

some issues. Literacy is really invaded in the country.
