US HISTORY I Honors Mr.

Hartford 201516
US History I will track the development of our country, beginning with the
creation and growth of the USA until it embarks upon its own Imperialistic
campaigns. We will focus on political, social, and economic events that shaped
the course of our nations history.

Objectives
1. Students will discover the similarities and differences between the discovery of
America and the United States of Americas Imperialistic policy of the late 19 th
Century.
2. Students will investigate the causes of the American Revolution and the
formation of our country
3. Students will explore conflicts related to a young country, including both failures
and successes
4. Students will look at how our great country can be split apart in bloody conflict,
and how it deals with the challenges as it reunites.

Grade System
1. 50% Tests/Projects
a. Standard Tests or projects will be used for evaluation(approximately 3-5
per Quarter)
b. Tests may include content from readings, homework assignments, and
classroom activities

2. 20% Quizzes

a. Quizzes will include ANY subject from previously classes (discussions or


exercises), Vocabulary, presidents, reading checks, geography, etc.

3. 15% Homework

a. Assignments are credit/no credit. To receive credit, assignments must be


legible, completed on the due date given, and full effort must be
evident.
b. Some assignments will be started in class to be completed at home. These
will be posted in the classroom as well as on my website. If you attend
class when assignment was given but were out on the day it was due, it is
due the day you return.
c. Each quarter will include vocabulary and note taking from text
book.

4. 15% Class participation

a. Students are required to fully participate in all classroom activities.


i. This begins with being in class on time, with paper and a writing
utensil
ii. Participation in all group activities. No sleeping, head up, attentive,
and on task
iii. Occasionally homework assigned directly impacts the next class
activity, failure to do such assignments will cost points for class
participation as well as their homework grade
b. Following the above directions will earn you 2pts per day
i. Missed class time (for any reason) must be made up within 10 school
days

1. Students will come to this class Prepared, and will have Courtesy, Respect,
Integrity, and Responsibility (for their own behavior, actions, opinions, and
education)
2. Cheating and plagiarism is intolerable, all involved will receive zeroes and a call
home
3. Test make-ups will be done in class the day of your return (exceptions for
extended absences)
4. Missed class time (for any reason) must be made up within 10 school days or you
will have 2 points taken off your final quarter grade (per absence)
5. I will be available every Tuesday after school for extra help in room D03, through
email daily, by appointment other afternoons, and also in the morning before the
bell rings.
