Research Project Completion Form

TOPIC: _Do high school students follow socially accepted
instructions?
_____________________________________________
1. What was your hypothesis?
High school students percentages of following socially accepted instructions is around
50%.
2. What method of research design did you choose and why?
I decided to make an anonymous survey with basic questions because this allowed me to
gather many honest results in a small amount of time.
3. How did you define the ambiguous (unclear) aspects of your topic?
Socially accepted instructions: covering your mouth when coughing, saying excuse me,
chewing with your mouth closed, holding the door open for someone, ect.
4. What variables do you expect to impact your project?
Variables of what grade the students are in can affect the maturity of the person taking the
quiz.
5. How do you plan on addressing those variables?
I asked ten questions and took the student body as a whole, instead of dividing them up to
give myself a bigger group of people.
6. Data Collection:
How did you collect your data?
I collected my data by using the percentages of each question answered.
Who did your project target?
My project targeted high school students.
Did it matter who you targeted? Why or why not?

Yes it matter who I targeted because my entire project is about students, not middle aged
adults. I wanted to know about the students.
7. Data Analysis:
How did you analyze your data?
I analyzed my data through frequency.
What were you looking for? (mean, mode, frequency, correlation, etc.)
I was looking for the frequency that high school students follow socially accepted
instructions.
What were your results?
Most students do follow these instructions.
Did your results prove or disprove your hypothesis? How do you know?
It disproved my hypothesis because more than half of the questions were mostly
answered 1-2, always.

6. Reflection:
What was the most difficult thing about this project?
The most difficult thing about this project was the amount of time span we were given.

If you could ask a different question or questions to improve your results what would it
be?
I think I would ask more questions on my survey to improve my results.

Is your view of the topic different now? Why or why not?

In a way my view of this topic has changed. My view of students following these
instructions has changed. I believed students would be less likely to follow these
instructions, but I was proven wrong.

If you could do the entire project over again, what would you do differently?
If I were to do this project over again I would split up the grade levels.
7. Documents:
Please attach a copy of your survey, interview questions, and explanation of your
observation or experiment. (whatever you did to collect your data)
Please attach a copy of the pieces of literature you found that related to your topic of
study (shoot for at least 3)
