Dr. Stephanie
The member had hypothyroidism (insufficient thyroid hormone)
and was having difficulty getting the proper dosage of her
medication.
She was sent to an endocrinologist, who switched her to another
medication in an effort to regulate her numbers. The member had
the results from all of her lab work for me to review. She also had
three bottles of her original and new medication, which reflected
different dosage instructions.
In reviewing her lab results, I surmised she was taking the wrong
dosage. A call to her primary care providers office verified she
was using the wrong bottle of thyroid medication.
I asked her to dispose of the others to avoid future confusion. We
then rescheduled her next round of lab work to better reflect the
effects of her now being on the correct regimen.
