CAT 2015: Salient features

The official notification for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015 was released on July
26. CAT 2015 is scheduled to be conducted on November 29, it is being conducted by the
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM- A).
Few salient features of the examination, as outlined by IIM Ahmedabad are mentioned
below:

The exam will be held in 650 examination centres in 136 cities across the country

The exam will be held only on one day, there will be two sessions on the same day

The candidates have the option to select up to four choices as their examination city.
The institute will try to assign the first city of choice to all candidates, however, if that
is not possible, then the candidates will be assigned a city as per their mentioned
order of preference

The exam sessions will be assigned to the candidates in random order, they will not
have the choice to choose their own session

The payment of fee is to be done through online mode only, i.e. through credit card,
debit card or net banking. No other mode of payment is applicable

The aspirants can register for the exam and complete the application process
between August 6 and September 20

The admit cards will be released on October 15

The authorities will also release an online tutorial explaining the format of the
examination on October 15

The exam will be for a duration of 180 minutes, which has been increased form the
170 minutes-long exam last year

The paper will comprise of three sections, Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data
Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal & Reading Comprehension
(VRC)

The Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal & Reading Comprehension sections will carry
34 questions each, while the Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section will
carry 32 questions

Not all questions will follow the objective type format, few questions will be subjective
as well

The candidates will be allowed to use the basic on-screen calculator for computation

The candidates will have 60 minutes for attempting each section, and they cannot
switch from one section to another during each 60-minute slot

The results of the competitive exam are likely to be declared in the second week of
January 2016
