Workshop Title: Creating and Customizing Your MyCourses Class Shell

Day # 3 Incorporating Media Using E-Learning Principles

Subject(s) of the day's workshop: This workshop covers e-learning principles, adding media to
course shells, copyright and citation, and accessibility.
Prerequisite Knowledge: Days 1-2 of this workshop and RIT username and email account
Content:
Todays workshop covers the use of e-learning principles to improve online presentations and include
them in MyCourses course shells. Participants will learn how to embed media into MyCourses

shells while following the basic principles of e-learning to make sure that the media is enhancing
the educational experience rather than distracting students from the learning objectives.
Accessibility will be covered in this workshop to make sure instructors follow ADA to allow all
students access to all course materials. Copyright and content attribution will also be covered.
The objectives for today are:

Use e-learning principles to select and create media for educational use
Adding images to MyCourses shells
Adding video to MyCourses shells
Adding audio to MyCourses shells
Understand copyright laws
Use appropriate citation
Make all course content accessible to students with disabilities
How will you teach the lesson? Details help.

This lesson will be taught in a computer lab using a projector to display key concepts, examples,
and steps on a screen at the front of the room. I will walk the instructors through the main ideas,
examples, and steps and address any questions they have while I walk around the lab helping
them. I created a Ted Ed lesson for them to complete online about e-learning principles before
they begin applying them in their course shells. I will ask them to share any ideas or tips they
have that are related to the lesson.
Additional materials you will use and how will you use them.
I will have a handout available and I will make sure that everyone has the support website
address.
Evaluation Strategies
I will evaluate how well the lesson worked by having the instructors complete a survey electronically that
that they will complete in the lab. They will give feedback about what worked and what did not work and
if there are other topics or questions that were not addressed that they would like to see addressed in the
future.
