COMM 1010

Self-Reflection
How can I apply what Ive learned in COMM 1010 to areas outside the classroom? Thats
likely one of the easiest questions to answer because it is so ingrained into our daily routines that
I am currently using it right now as I write this paper to communicate to whomever will read
this. Communication is used everywhere: Its used when my boss tells me what station I will be
working in for the day, I use it to tell my mother how class went, and I use it to show my writing
skills to teachers in exchange for a grade. I dont even have to talk in order to communicate.
However, the difference in what makes an effective and ineffective communicator is
something that must be noted, and this class not only shows you the difference, but also shows
you how to be the better of the two. I can apply it by incorporating the steps taught in the book
into my life through effective communication to my family, well-written formal reports to my
boss, or a well-designed PowerPoint to my other classes. Below is a paper that I believe really
shows the skills I have been able to learn from this class.
