(N) The HPV is not immediately life threating and it will not manifest for years if not decades;
indeed the prevalence of these strains in the U.S. is quite low.
4. Briefly state in your own words two opinions presented by each side.
(Y) For those youths who have not yet been exposed to HPV, the right of the child to receive the
preventive measure should override respect for the parents autonomy and the parents desire to
teach social beliefs that restrict health care action, because the health threat directly involves the
life of the child.
(Y) Minors have a right to be protected against vaccine- preventable illness, and society has an
interest in safeguarding the welfare of children who may be harmed by the choices of their
parents and guardians.
(N) To remove parental autonomy in this case is not warranted and also risks parental rejection of
the vaccine because it is perceived as coercive. In contrast, education the public about the value
of the vaccine may be highly effective without risking public backlash.
(N) To be sure, the public health objective that proponents of mandatory HPV vaccination seek to
achieve is compelling. Vaccinating girls before sexual debut provides an opportunity is lost once
sexual activity begins and exposure to HPV occurs.
5. Briefly identify as many fallacies (lack of reasoning or validity) on the Yes side as you can.
The purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised and against the disease is to prevent harm to
others through the vaccination program.
6. Briefly identify as many fallacies on the No side as you can.
Young girls or women did not have a chance to reveal serious advice effects and HPV receives different
kind of reviews and respects from the vaccines that first led to state-mandated vaccination.
7. All in all, which author impressed you as being the most empirical in presenting his or her thesis? Why?
The first author impressed me a lot. In my opinion, they stated lots of evidence and facts in order to show
how server threaten of HPV to our lives. I could feel that they were fighting for people who was caged into
threats. Also, I do agree with him that Prevention is better than treatment.
8. Are there any reasons to believe the writers are biased? If so, why do they have these biases?
I believe that it is possible for most of the author writing an argument is biased. Since the author insists
his own opinion and bases on his personal connection or experiences, the tone and expression are
sometimes way too extreme. At this point, I do understand that these two journals are understandable.
9. Which side (Yes or No) do you personally feel is most correct now that you have reviewed the material
in these articles? Why?
I personally like the first one, yes side, and I think it is correct and reasonable. Since there are lots of
young girls are getting problems from HPV through sexual activities, the presentation is kind of a better
way to be cured. No one want to be set into dangerous, so try to make the mandatory of HPV vaccines is
necessary. As a young woman, I do feel threaten from my life. Since I dont know when or where I will get
a chance to be infected, I think the vaccines will make me feel more safety.
